Jared's POV
Recently something very surprising happened, and it left me in shock. Literally. Evan confessed to me. He said he loved me more than a friend, but I didn't know how to respond. I love him too, I love him so much, which is probably what made me… uh… shocked?
I mean, where did he even get all that confidence? He's Evan, and I mean that in a good way because he's adorable, he isn't courageous or… brave even. He doesn't talk aloud and he barely speaks his mind without worrying if he's going to offend someone else or himself. Which makes him even more anxious.
Back to the story, Evan confessed. I was surprised, frozen, whatever you want to call it. And then he… left. So I'm inviting him over, to actually talk about it, and see where it goes from there. I'm hoping I don't freeze again.
*Nook Nook door noise*
Ouu that's him. Okay. Don't fuck this up Jared… okay don't make any promises you can't keep. Just don't make him break down, that's a start.
I walked over to the door, put my hand on the doorknob, and took a deep breath. Here goes… something. I open the door to see an anxious Evan, honestly I don't know what I was expecting. It's just Evan. The adorable geek who has heightened anxiety that turns into a little lion cub with sharp claws eating it's way into your sympathetic heart. Okay, what the fuck Jared?!
Moving on… he's still waiting for me to let him inside, shit.
"Hey Hansen, come on in" I try to say without freaking out from making a fool of myself. I moved aside and gestured for him to come in. I take a glance at his face again and it slightly shifts than from earlier. I guess that's progress.
"H-hi." He replies as he steps inside.
"You want anything? I got water, soda, juice?" I ask as I walk into the kitchen.
"Just w-water, thank you."
"No problem buddy." I get him a glass of water and hand it back to him as I walk back. He's seated on the couch staring at the ground while rubbing his arm. I better lighten the mood.
"So I yelled at Connor today-"
"Jared are you stupid?!-"
"Just hear me out! He took my juice box and he drank it so I threw the empty carton at him."
"... okay that's kind of funny." Then he does his adorable little laugh that I fucking love. My heart… it's melting…
"It gets better! So a few kids saw that Connor was getting hit by a juice box so they all started throwing their juice boxes at him and we had a whole war in the cafeteria! Can you believe it?! A juice box war!"
"Oh my god." He starts to laugh harder and I love it when he does. He says he hates his laugh so it feels really good that he feels comfortable enough around me to do it.
I wait for a moment when his laughter dies down to say something.
"In all seriousness, I hope you know that your laugh isn't as terrible as you think it is." I give him a sincere smile, hoping he doesn't hate me for mentioning it.
"...thank you."
"As always, no problem Evy-" shit. I always do that. As I realise my mistake, his smile widens. Maybe he doesn't hate me.
"Stahpppp."
"Nu." I stick my tongue out at him and he does the same. We go back and forth for a while.
"Alright, alright, you win." I give up.
"Ha!" And we're back to laughing like idiots again. A few more moments later and I think we're both finally ready to talk about… earlier today.
"Hey, uhm, Ev?"
"Hm?" He lifts his head and kind of cocks it to the side when people are confused or something and he's so cute when he does that.
"About… today, I just wanted to say-"
"I get it, you don't have to finish. I just thought I should get it off my chest…" he does a sad laugh if that makes sense. God if only he knew.
"No, that's not what I was going to say," I start to smile more knowing that we could actually he a couple soon, "I should clear up some misunderstandings before I say anything else."
He doesn't say anything so I continue talking, "You definitely surprised me, when you confessed. I didn't think you ever would. So I was in shock for a while, I was trying to process it so much that I didn't even reply."
"Oh-"
"Still not done. You… we have been friends for ages now-"
"Friends?"
"Yeah. Friends." He smiles again. "Anyway, I actually started to uh, hey, have a crush on you a few years back. But since we were both kind of young I didn't want to pressure you into a relationship. So I waited, tried to give off hints, signals, yet you were oblivious like always. Which may I add is the cutest shit I have ever seen. Like literally, how is that possible?! When I thought you couldn't be any cuter!"
Now he was the one in shock.
"See what I mean?!" I say through laughs. It's difficult to respond when you're surprised.
"Y-yeah, I guess." He laughs along with me.
"So to end any further awkwardness… Would you want to be my boyfriend?"
I think he starts crying, there's definitely some water works but I can't tell. Until he screams-
"Yes!"
