I had to work extra shifts this week but it was worth it. Jared said he needed a new laptop but he said he could fix it. I thought he could because of a class he took. A few days later and he got really frustrated with himself because he was confused. He didn't know how to fix it but didn't have the money for a new one.
A few letters were really worn out and the brightness was dimmed, it wasn't easy to use and it was a pretty old model. So I thought about it for a second, usually he loves being independent when he has a project which is great! But he never knows when to quit, and that stresses him out.
So I caved in and bought him a new laptop. It wasn't the newest model but like the 2nd or something. I just hope he'll like it, I worked kind of hard. Whatever, even if he doesn't he can just act like he does so I don't feel like shit. Either way, as long as he's happy, then I'm happy.
So earlier when we were hanging out, he had to go to the store. I have about 10 minutes until he gets home, plenty of time to set it up. I go to his 'work station' which is just his old laptop, a few tools, and a notepad. It's cute though, he has his own little area. We're getting off topic. I switch the old with the new and connect the mouse because the scroll bar on the laptop is annoying. Yes it's a laptop and is has a mouse, deal with it.
I write a small note in his notepad without invading his privacy, he says he just writes down the tools he needs and stuff but just in case. I put a sticky note to make it more noticeable, so it's like a bookmark. I take a step back and it looks so much better. He'll love it.. hopefully.
I check the time and I have about 2 minutes to spare. Good, I did it on time. If I didn't it would probably ruin the surprise. I sit back down on his bed and anxiously wait. It's so much worse when everything could go downhill in a matter of seconds. If he doesn't like it then... I'd rather not think about it.
But if it goes good, maybe we'll get closer. More than just 'family friends'. It kind of hurts to say but he's okay with it so I have to be... to make him happy. Then the door opens. Okay, here goes something.
He walks back into his room and immediately notices his work station and drops the bag he was holding. He just stares at it while I have a nervous look on my face. He steps closer to it and opens the laptop, seeing it brand new. He runs his hand over the keys with a still shocked expression. Like he's trying to take everything in. But then he sees the sticky note... this is when I get anxious and have second doubts on writing it.
As he reads it, I think a smile forms on his lips but at this angle it's a bit difficult to see. He covers his mouth with his hand. His eyes squint, hopefully the happy kind of squint, not the disappointed mother squint. He looks back at me. I scratch my head and say, "surprise?"
"You, you didn't- no way. No way! You bought this! For me?!"
"Y-yeah... do you like it?" He freezes again for a second and says nothing. God the suspense is killing me.
"Like it? Evan I love it! How long did it take you to buy this? What-" he freaks out with a huge, adorable, smile on his face as he jumps around.
"I just worked a few extra shifts at work... might have walked a few dogs just to make sure... heh." I nervously laugh as he just stares at me.
"You did all that for me?" He points at himself with his finger.
"Uh yeah, yeah I did. You said you're laptop was having a few malfunctions and I know how much you love those so I bought you a new one..? It's not the latest model or anything-"
"I don't give a shit about the model. You, you did all that for me... well shit," now he scratches the back of his neck, "I didn't really get anything for you."
"Nonono it was a surprise. It's what friends do."
"Thank you Ev-"
"I also downloaded a new mod or something, honestly I have no idea what I did but the guy at the store said it was like an update or something-"
"No you didn't!" He goes back to his happy state as he frantically turns on the laptop. I'm guessing he's checking out whatever I just said. I don't understand any of it but I do know that's a real smile.
"Was it worth the extra shifts...?"
"Jesus Christ Evan, how can you even ask that?! Of course it is! I freaking love you!"
"That's g- wait what?"
"Oh shhh- well that's happening now. I uh, I love you Evan. Don't know if you realized or not but..." he scratches the back of his neck and looks away. He's nervous, I know that look far too well. So to prevent any future panic attacks I kiss him. I feel him kiss back and I smile through the kiss.
When we pull away he's smiling too. "You know, that could have been a good surprise too and it would of been free." He snickers.
"I can return it if you want." I joke.
"No fuck off. My boyfriend got it for me."
"Boyfriend?"
"Mhm. You are now my boyfriend." He smiles proudly.
"Okay." I kiss him again.
...
He's going to be on that laptop all the time now.
