Really fucking long one-shot
"C'mon Jaredddd, we're going to be late!" I yell as I fall back on his bed, waiting for him to finish changing. It's Zoe's birthday and she invited our whole friend group to come, since she basically lives in a mansion.
"Hold on, I'm almost done!" He yells from the bathroom. I have no idea why he's taking so long, he's just changing his shorts. He used to not wear a shirt when we was going to swimming but one comment from a highschooler was enough.
"Jared, you've been in there for like 10 minutes, is something wrong?" I get off his bed and walk towards the door. I try to see if I can hear anything but I can't. Just some shuffling, probably him changing. But why is he just now changing?
"Everything's good Evan, why don't you go outside and get the car started. I'll be out soon." He replies from inside. Something isn't right.
"Alright..." I start to walk towards the front door but I sit and debate for a second. Should I really leave him alone? What if something happens? I open the door but I stay inside so he thinks I left. I know, probably a dick move but I can't not worry.
I tip toe back to the bathroom door, carefully watching out for any sudden noises. Something is not right and I have to find out what. I wait for another minute and nothing out of the usual happens. He starts to unlock the door so I bolt to the car.
I start it up just in time as Jared walks out... wearing his shirt. But that's up to him, it's his body so he can do what he wants. Anyway, he gets in the passenger seat and turns on the radio.
"You finally ready?" I snicker.
"Oh shut up and drive. Aren't we late?"
"Nope, I only said that to see if you would hurry up, and I was wrong."
"You dick."
We laugh as I start to pull out of his driveway. He turns up the radio when a song comes on. "Battle Scars" by Paradise Fears (it's a really good song you should listen to it). He plays this all the time when we're just hanging out at his house. It really gives him a boost sometimes, it always puts a smile on his face. Which is good because he doesn't do that as much anymore.
I was just humming along until Jared started softly singing. He doesn't miss a word, gets every note, matches with every beat. Woah. Since when could he sing?! He doesn't even know how good he is! Or that I'm listening in. I should try to focus on the road so he doesn't get embarrassed, and not crashing, don't stare at your crush when driving kids.
"I'll carry you home
No you're not alone
Keep marching on
This is worth fighting for
You know we've all got battle scars~"I am just shocked, "since when could you sing?!" I ask as I take a glance at him, he starts to get red with embarrassment.
"You were listening? Jeez Evan, give me a break!" He laughs.
"Oh c'mon, you were good! I wish I could sing like that."
"You're probably better than me." He does a nervous laugh.
"Not a chance, not with that song. You claimed it years ago."
"True."
"Seriously though, we're in collage! Live a little, go to a concert, sing outside when you go on those hour long walks."
"They are not an hour long!... they're like 45 minutes..."
"Shut up. We're almost there, asshole."
"Rude, just for that I'm not swimming." He fake pouts and looks the other way, trying to hold back a laugh.
"We're literally going to a pool party, you have to swim."
