My convocation ceremony came along. Many events passed before my eyes. I went to serve in Jos, Plateau State. Bayo always came down to see me.

One year passed calmly. I and Bayo were almost inseparable. My service was smooth I must say after which I spent a month with Bayo in his house.

"Baby." I called out. He was in the room for a long time now.

"I'll be out in a sec," he said and I sighed.
He was taking me out for my best chocolate treat. It was going to be exciting. But I didn't understand what was taking him so long.

He soon came, running down the stairs.
"Let's go." He said.

"You put on that cologne right?"  I smiled. I so loved it.

"Yes." He said sounding cheeky. He put out his arm.
"Let's go."

We went to our favorite eatery. I sighed. It had been one year since I was last here.

"Chocolate." He said and I blushed.
Bayo just knew what to do to tease me.

We settled down. The waiter brought our order and I saw a bottle of nonalcoholic wine.

"Baby, what are we celebrating?" I asked.

"Us." He said and I smiled.

We ate for a while. I saw Bayo fidgeting.

"B...are you okay?" I asked.

"I am fine."

"C'mon. Don't hide things from me. Abi I should start mine?" I asked.

"No no." He said and dipped his hand into his breast pocket.

"Amanda, I know we've been through a lot lately. But I love you so much and I want to spend my life with you." He said and knelt on one knee.

I gasped. I didn't expect this.

O my God, I thought as he knelt down.

"Amanda, will you marry me?" He asked.

I hesitated.

Go for it, you love him, I thought.

"Yes Baby. I'll marry you." I said and he slipped the ring unto my second finger. He stood up and we embraced.
He looked at me and we kissed.
Those who were present applauded us.
I was so happy.

We went back home after having a whole lot of fun.

Bayo was in the bathroom. I decided to call Mama and tell her. I dialed Mama's number. It rang and then she picked.

"Hello Mama." I greeted.

"My child. How are you?" She asked.

"I am fine Mama. Guess what?" I asked.

"What?"

"Kai. Mama guess na. Guess." I said again.

"Bia, nwata, ishi na wa m (Come, you this child. I have a headache). Tell me jor." She said in a funny way.

"I am engaged, Mama." She said.

"To?" She questioned. I was surprised.

"Ahn ahn. Bayo of course na."

"Taaa, I say taa. That Yoruba boy?"

"But Mama, I love him."

"Love kill you there, Chiamaka." She said calling my Igbo name.

"Mama, I don't like this. I don't. I love Bayo and I'll marry him." I said.

"Better start coming back home oh. I don't want trouble. Your father mustn't hear of this."

"Mama," I said. Before I could speak again, she had ended the call.

"Ah, na wa oh." I said and went upstairs.

Bayo's POV

Today was the best day of my life. I finally proposed  to Amanda. I was so excited. While she was downstairs, I decide to give dad a call.

"Hello, dad."

"Hello my son. How are you?" He asked.

"I am fine dad." I replied smiling.

"I can sense your happiness. What's up? Won't you gist daddy?"

"Dad, I am engaged."

"That's good news son. Congratulations. Is it to Tola?"

"No. Haba. Not Tola oh. Her name is Amanda. We've been seeing for over a year now." I said.

"That's good. Yoruba ba?"

"No. Igbo." I said and paused for his reply.

"Ehn, omo Igbo." He said.

"Yes daddy."

"Awon omo olowo."

"Ah, haba. Daddy because she's Igbo doesn't mean she loves money now."

"Adebayo. You better change your decision oh."

"Dad, I love Amanda. I will marry her." I said and ended the call.

I heard a loud sigh.

"Your father too?" It was Mandy.

Back to Amanda

"I have been here. But not quite long. I told Mama. She's not happy."

"My father isn't either." Bayo sighed.

"What are we going to do, Bayo?" I said and went to sit beside him.

"We'll convince them babe. We will." He cuddled me as I leaned towards him.

I sighed deeply as I listened to his heart beat.

Yay

I wrote a long chapter.

Who else is against interethnic marriage😩

Not fair.....

As long as you love and understand each other, it's cool.

I'll update again soon.
