Sans walked into the room sluggishly, dragging his feet with each step. It was so stupid of him to feel crushed from Y/N's words. She probably just didn't feel comfortable being touched at all, after her experience with Brandon. He sighed sadly, leaning against the opposite wall from his friends, who watched him with worried eyes.

"BROTHER, ARE YOU ALRIGHT?" Papyrus asked fretfully. Sans only nodded in response as Y/N entered. All eyes turned to her, including his own, and he couldn't help but stare. She did not look good, but in a way that made her look good. Her eyelashes were darker and thicker from her tears, creating a perfect shadow on her glistening E/C eyes. Her blushed cheeks reflected the light, making her face seem to glow. God, she was gorgeous.

Y/N spared him an annoyed scowl before making her way to the group. Mettaton looked horrified, seeing Sans glum and then Y/N clearly crying, he probably assumed the worst. Sans couldn't help but chuckle dryly.

"Oh, darling..." Mettaton murmured sympathetically as he approached her. Y/N gave him a puzzled look before realizing.

"Oh! No, no it's good! He's not my soulmate." She laughed. Mettaton shot Sans a not-so-subtle confused glance before lifting Y/N into a hug.

"I'm so happy for you, darling!" He exclaimed. Sans tensed, taking a step forward to intervene. She said she didn't want to be touched right now. But at the sight of her cheerful face, he froze. Y/N was giggling and clinging onto Mettaton as the others joined into the hug. She was genuinely smiling. She wasn't uncomfortable with all touch, just his touch. He felt his soul drop to his stomach, making him nauseous. Sans leaned against the wall to watch Y/N and his friends celebrate from a distance. She was happy right now, and he wasn't going to ruin that. She made it clear that she didn't want to be near him. Sans weakly set his hand on his chest, trying to ease the pain.

"Hey punk, come over here!" Undyne called out to Sans.

"Ah, it's okay, I already got all my hugs in. I'll throw you guys a bone." He chuckled as Papyrus screamed. His eyes darted towards Y/N to see her reaction. She rolled her eyes, per usual, but she didn't smile. Sans suddenly didn't feel like smiling, either. "And I'm feeling kinda sick so... Ya know." He stared at the ground, "Uh, Y/N, do you want me to wait to take you home or-"

"You can go." Y/N said stoically, "I can get a ride back with Riverperson." She turned her back on him to hug Alphys. Sans nodded mutely.

"See you later, I guess..." He sighed and teleported away.

Y/N's hug tightened around Alphys as she heard Sans leave. He sounded so... defeated. Her soul hurt at the sound of his voice, she felt awful. No, she was mad at him. She couldn't be sympathetic when he's the one who lied to her. Y/N bit her lip and squeezed her eyes closed. He didn't trust her.
