- My assertion: There are two ways to "play dumb".
1. "Play coy/innocent" - teasingly or jokingly done by adults and children. Melodramatic. It is a fully transparent avoidance behavior. It is common with adults, but children also play-pretend and kid in this manner b
2. "Playing the victim" - someone deceptively pretending to not understand what they have done wrong. It is played straight, - either calmly restating or begging - to be believed. It is most common with children, and gaslighting manipulators.
- Both ways to "play dumb" are performed by people actively withholding intelligence from a conversation while also downplaying their own intelligence.
* I was watching psychiatrist YouTube videos on relevant topics, and they jogged my memory of my past leisurely research, and my academic studies.*
