Never forget who you're talking to you. Even when someone is playing nice, their bad side can still come back with a vengeance. You know them;you know better. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst. It doesn't matter how good of a snake charmer you are, a domestic snake still bites whenever it wants to; like the old proverb says, because it's a snake: https://www.firstpeople.us/FP-Html-Legends/TheLittleBoyAndTheRattlesnake-Cherokee.html. You personally can't tame the nature of someone or something. Let them keep their sorry; you don't need their apology. You can do better. You deserve better.
Whenever people actually do change, people only change to better themselves (after accepting that they need to) and/or to stop hurting the people who they truly love. If you tell some "Stop saying/doing that; it hurts me", but they continue to say/do the hurtful thing, at what point do you finally accept that they don't love you like thought that they did? You have to make a decision for you future, with or without them.
