The criminal victimization of the mentally ill is a serious problem. First, psychiatry has come a long way from its oppressive and misogynistic history (https://mospace.umsystem.edu/xmlui/bitstream/handle/10355/11577/WalterInsRheWom.pdf?sequence=1). The predators think that they can get away with crimes because the victim"is crazy", so no one will believe them if they try to press charges. Abuse is underreported. Disabled persons are not immune to human cruelty; ask any special education teacher or social worker.
