Just Kidding

 "I love you darling..."

You froze in your place, eyes bigger than a goldfish as the words flow through your head again and again until it finally registered with you. You turned away from the tall man with daunting brown eyes, the one missing his smirk and who showed no sign of joking. You tipped back your brandy before leaving through the front exit of the bar.

As soon as your feet hit the sidewalk you broke into a run, panic setting into your chest. Even when your legs felt as if they were going to give out on you, you continued to run and run until you made it to your destination.

You knocked on the front door repeatedly.

"Who is it?" Chloe's voice settled you slightly as she called through the door.
"It's... just... me." You huffed knowing she'd recognised your voice.

"Y/n? What are you doing here at this hour?" Chloe checked her watch again as she opened the door.

"You've got to help me, the worst thing just happened to me... and I think the whole world is going to fall apart." You spoke at a hundred miles an hour.
"Woah, woah, what's up?" She took you by the shoulders, worry written in her features.

"Lucifer just told me he loved me... like seriously, no smirk, no laugh, just a straight serious out of nowhere 'I love you". You watched as Chloe's eyes widened before narrowing again. "Lucifer doesn't just go around admitting his love for people that's not how he works... I think he's sick... maybe we need a priest." You continued to ramble.

"Y/n, I'm sure he was just messing around with you." Chloe furrowed her eyebrows.
"Oh yeah because that's supposed to make me feel 100% better considering I'm 2000% in love with him." You paced back and forth, trying to remember to speak quietly due to Trixie.
"All I'm saying is we do not need a priest or a doctor, Lucifer is not sick, well... maybe in the head..." Chloe weighs the options.
"Chloe! Concentrate! I mean even if it is a joke how am I supposed to brush over the fact that I literally walked out of Lux with rosy cheeks in response. If that doesn't say I'm totally completely and utterly in love with you I'm not sure what does." Your pace became faster the more you thought.

"Just... say you weren't in the mood for his jokes." Chloe said still deep in thought.
"Yes because I want the devil to punish me for lying." Sarcasm oozed from your mouth.

"He'd never dare to lay a hand on you, it would kill him." Chloe says like it's nothing. "That would be like Dan hurting me, it just doesn't happen." She rambles.
"What did you just say?" You froze. "Do you know about this already? Chloe if you know he's not joking with me you need to tell me now..." A knock at the door cut you both off.

Lucifer barged through the door, no sign of distress showing on his face. He smiled his usual charming smile as he greeted the two of you.
"Hello, may I steal the little miss for a moment Detective?" He blinks furiously, smile plastered to his face.
Chloe nodded walking out of the room leaving you two alone.

"Sorry about just leaving you behind Luci Goose, I just wasn't feeling right, I've had a bit of a fiery temper lately and I wasn't in the mood for your jokes." You say the first thing that comes to mind.
"Oh good, I'm sorry you're not feeling well, I just wanted to make sure you didn't think I was serious." He laughed a forced belly laugh and you joined in.

"I would have to be idiotic Luci to believe you." You giggled.
"Right... good..." Lucifer looked as if he were struggling to maintain his smile. "Well, I just wanted to clear the air and all... so... I'll be on my way." He bows his head rushing out the front door.

Your body crumbles with your heart, the energy drained from you to pretend you weren't hurting as he spoke was incredible. Chloe knelt by you rubbing your back in support.

After about a half hour of crying, there was another knock on the door, you rushed out of the room and into the kitchen just in case.
