Sleeping

"Come you can't tell me you wouldn't take a shot at Dan if you had the chance?" Maze's eyes rolled over you, judging your exterior collectiveness.

"As attractive as most of the female population tend to find him, I don't think I would take a shot. That's just not me, I'm like blaringly oblivious as well." You shrug, taking, leaning on the edge of the couch. "It would take someone like... kissing me or something for me to realize I could have taken a shot." You explain, Maze simply rolled her eyes.

"You're a concern." Maze scoffs taking a sip of her drink.

"This isn't helped whatsoever by the fact that someone is after my head." You added, looking over your shoulder as if the criminal coming after you was hovering in every shadow.

"Yeah because Dan's going to let that happen." Again your sarcastic friend rolled her eyes, filling up her drink. "Like anyone's going to let that happen." She corrects herself.
"I know." You sigh, taking note of the shake in your hands.

"Tell me, if you could do anything with Dan Espinoza, what would it be?" Maze asks, sitting before you. You processed the question, failing to notice as her eyes flickered over your shoulder, sending a wink to someone.

"I'd sleep with him." You blurted, hating the way that it sounded on your lips.
"Yass." Maze smiled. "That's more like it, see your brain isn't all consumed." She smirks.
"Not like that." You scolded.

"Like what then?" The deeper voice caused your entire body to tense. You grimaced, glaring at the knowing look on Maze's face before turning to face the detective you had just been speaking of.

"None of your business." Maze covered for you. "What are you doing eavesdropping on us anyhow?" She asks, successfully changing the subject, mostly as she didn't want to find out if your cheeks could turn any redder.

"I'm here to pick Y/n up." He folds his arms over his chest. "Rumor has it, Marax has located her, so we're moving her to a remote location under my protection."  Dan informs you through his answer to Maze's question.

"He's found me?" You swallow, the memory of Marax hovering over you as he slid the blade of his knife up lightly over the skin of your stomach. The shake in your hand increased.

"Our sources say yes, however, we're not certain, Chloe and Lucifer are out on the field, they think they're getting closer but it's still important for us to relocate you just in case." Dan steps forward, doing his best to put your fears to rest. "You'll be okay, I promise." He takes your hand, silence settling as you search his eyes.

The moment was interrupted by Maze gagging at the pair of you.
"Let's get out of here." He puts his hand on your shoulder, guiding you to the elevator, sending a glare in Maze's direction before it was just the two of you.

The car ride through the city was completely silent, you were forced to wear one of Dan's hoodies and a pair of sunglasses to try and hide your appearance. He looked over you every few moments, making sure you were okay and when he thought you weren't, he placed his hand your leg, giving it a reassuring squeeze.

"I'm not going to let him get to you, you know that right?" He asked as you pulled up to the small motel where you were staying for the time being.
"I know you won't." You nod. "I just feel, tense." You explain, the two of you were swift, moving into the room, locking and blocking the door and closing the curtains. Dan moved the beds away from the window, doing his best to safety proof the room.

The two of you settled, sitting next to each on the bed, backs leant against the wall, the afternoon sun was casting the room in a golden glow.

"What did you mean?" Dan questioned, disturbing the silence.

"What?" You turned your head to look at him, his eyes a painting of blues under the dying sun.
"Before, when you said you'd sleep with me, what did you actually mean?" He repeats himself, clarifying his curiosity.

You hesitate.

...

...

...

"I suppose." You take a deep breath. "I mean, I haven't slept much over the past few weeks due to everything happening." You exhale. "I haven't slept more than a few hours a night."
"Yeah..."
"I guess I just thought, if I had you by my side, I might, feel safe enough to rest peacefully." You explain, fiddling with a loose thread on your sleeve.

"Right." He nodded. "Why?" He responds to your words.
"Why?" You repeat, considering your answer, he nods, encouraging you to continue. "You make me feel safe. I've grown to... care about you, a lot." You try to say your thoughts without sounding too cheesy. You're not sure you succeeded.

Dan nods, his eyes drifting for a moment as if he was falling into his thoughts.
"Come on." He says as he stands, pushing the other bed next to the one you sat on. You watched as he removed his jacket before crawling back across the mattress, his head resting on a pillow. He opens his arms.

"Come here." He beckons you forward, though your heart was thudding against your chest like a hammer, you couldn't deny yourself this chance. Perhaps you would take the shot if you could. You lay down on his arm, squeaking lightly as he pulls you closer, resting his forehead on yours. Your body was pressed to his, his warmth naturally relaxing your muscles.

"Sleep." He whispered.
"Why?" You question his every action.
"Because I love you too." He says against your skin, pressing a kiss to your forehead. His words surprised you, but you were always oblivious, especially of the way he looked at you.

The two of you fell asleep just like that and didn't wake up once, until early the next morning, still cocooned in his arms.

~

Hey Guys, a bit of a fluffy one today, I hope you like it! I certainly enjoyed writing one with a happy ending AND it's not even a two parter. That feels rare.

Anyway, I hope you are all safe and well.

Thank you so much for your support. I think I should have time this week for a few more updates. I might even tackle one of those requests. Who knows :).

Anyway, what did you think?

I hope your day/night is full of hope.
