"Hey, what's this?"I was just getting out of the bathroom, drying my hair with a towel when I was confronted with a shirtless Cedric growing through my stuff. The sight made me smile.
I put my towel over my desk and walked through the room, the hem of the shirt I was wearing brushing against my thighs.
Cedric turned around to see me and smiled when he saw what I was wearing - the shirt of his uniform. It was way too big on me which I loved and by the looks of it Cedric did too.
"Whatcha got there?" I asked with dumb smile before standing up on my toes to rest my chin on his shoulder. He had been rummaging through my trunk where I stored random stuff that didn't fit into the drawers.
"This ominous box," Cedric said, holding it up.
My smile immediately faltered.
"Oh, this," I huffed, taking a step back before taking the box from him and opening it. A metallic snake erupted from it and Cedric took a surprised step back. The snake carried a ring in it's mouth and placed it gently on my finger before sneaking itself around my wrist. Then it went still.
"That's some freaky jewelry, even for you," Cedric said, stepping closer again and peaking into the box.
I sighed again,
"It's from Lucius Malfoy," I said before walking up to my bed and letting myself fall on it, my back hitting the soft mattress with a small humfgh.
"Why are the Malfoys sending you jewelry?" Cedric asked. I could hear some shuffling, probably him taking out the letter from the box. Then steps echoed through the room and soon Cedric was laying next to me, arm around my waist. I was staring at my outstretched arm where the accessories graced my wrist and furrowed my brows.
"Guess we haven't had a chance to catch up for a while," I began. Cedric nodded before kissing my cheek,
"I've been busy trying to figure out what the first task would be," he explained.
I bit the insides of my cheeks. Should I really tell Cedric about Draco? He had enough on his mind with...Dragons.
It was too late when Cedric suddenly started reading the letter that had come with the package out loud,
"Dear Lia,
it is with great pleasure that I've heard that you and my dearest son have finally warmed up to each other and he was able to guide you through the troubles school life brings upon such sweet souls as your own. Draco himself has been telling me what a pleasure it has been with you, especially during potions class. The Malfoy's have always been close with your family, on your fatherly side of course, and therefore my wife suggested you have something that resembles this bond. With that I gift you this piece of jewelry, for may it show what strong connections the house of Slytherin can form.
Sincerely,
Lucius Malfoy, "
Cedric furrowed his brows and then read the letter again, silently. I held my breath as he looked between the parchment and my hand before raising his eyebrow.
"When did you want to tell me that you're best buddies nowadays with Malfoy?" he asked, throwing the letter aside and sitting up. I sighed and pouted at him, something I knew he was weak for.
"He's been blackmailing me," I whined. Cedric's face morphed from jealous anger to surprise and then confusion.
"What? How?"
I closed my eyes and furrowed my brows,
"He has a picture of you and me," I said with caution.
I was scared of Cedric's reaction, another reason I didn't tell him.
He had been at flightrisk ever since we started our secret little escapade. Would he bolt if there was a chance of us getting exposed? I couldn't bear to watch him, not if I could possibly see in his face how he wanted to leave me. Especially not after tonight...
"Li, why didn't you tell me?" he asked softly after a while. I shook my head, keeping my eyes shut.
Then I felt Cedric's hand tuck a lock of my hair behind my ear before it settled against my cheek, his thumb rubbing circles into the skin.
"I'm not mad, Li. It's okay. Thanks for trying to shield me," he spoke gently and I opened one eye to look at him. His expression was kind and understanding, as always.
"It's not as bad, actually," I murmured, turning my head against his hand, making him chuckle.
"He didn't want me to do anything insane. Well, despite me having to call him 'potion master' in class but that one actually turned out to be a bit funny," I chuckled, letting my eyes flutter shut again. I was getting rather tired.
"He basically just wants me to mention him in my letters to my father here and then so his father will hear about it. I actually feel kind of sorry for him about that,"
"Why is that?" Cedric's calm voice said before he placed his arms underneath me to position me in a sleeping position.
"He seems so... afraid of his Dad.. Sometimes.."
God, it was getting late. I felt Cedric move the covers over my body and smiled.
"Must suck..." I continued mumbling.
"I'll handle it if it gets bad," Cedric's distant voice said.
It was the last thing I heard before I finally drifted off to sleep.
