Coincidence

The cabinet turned out to be tricky, so much I could give to Draco. It probably wouldn't work so we had to find another way to kill Dumbeldore and invade Hogwarts. I wanted to go for a direct frontal attack but Draco dismissed the idea, saying he'd lose in a battle and I'd expose myself to the Order.

It's been only a few days but certainly everyone has noticed my change of attitude. No one would talk to me and if they tried I'd shut them down.

Eight days after my arrival Dumbeldore announced a ball that would be held. A spring ball, since last year the yule ball was a hit. For some reason this seemed extremely suspicious to me. Dumbledore and the Gryffindors all seemed suspicious to me. They were awfully quiet even though they knew who I had sided with over the past year. Something was up.

"Will you go with me?" Draco had asked me in the middle of potions.

I snorted, ignoring his advances.

"Yes or no," he demanded to know and I rolled my eyes.

"How come there is a ball held as soon as I get back?" I countered his question. Draco kept a steady face as he shrugged,

"Coincidence," he just said and I squinted my eyes at him.

"If I go with you and I find out it's not a coincidence-"

"Please, why shouldn't it be. I've told you a million times, Lia, not everything is about you," he spoke, rolling his eyes. The lesson ended and everyone packed their bags but Draco held me back by my wrist,

"So will you come with me?" he asked and I sighed.

"I suppose so. Everyone else is too scared to ask me anyways," I said before turning around and leaving.

I walked around a corner and hid behind there, waiting until Draco got out of the classroom. Then I followed him silently. Ever since I have arrived he has been acting strange. Insisting on staying by my side, ignoring most of my inquiries to work together to kill Dumbledore, disappeared when he thought I wasn't paying attention...

It was suspicious.

I followed him through the castle and eventually he disappeared into the bathroom of the moaning myrtle. I entered shortly after him, sneaking into a stall. Only a few minutes later I heard footsteps.

"Potter," Draco said in acknowledgement. Ah, so he was with Harry.

"So, how is it going?" Harry immediately asked.

A pause and then..

"She's going to the ball with me but she's guessing that it's for her. I told you it's obvious," Draco said.

"It was Professor Dumbledore's idea. He suggested to trigger her memories by recreating them. During the Yule Ball she danced with Johnny and cried, remember? It must be her most prominent memory of him here," Harry explained. I scoffed to myself. So that's the plan, to get me back? How pathetic of Draco to join forces with them. I had told him not to fall for me yet he had done it nonetheless.

"What about Diggory?" Draco asked and I clenched my jaw, anger flaring up inside of me.

"I'm not sure how to make her remember. Maybe bring her to the quidditch field or something? I'm not sure," Harry spoke.

"I know a spot, I'll take care of it,'' Draco declared sternly and I rolled my eyes. Idiot.

"I hope this works. Can you manage to hold her off until the Ball?" Harry asked.

Draco sighed deeply and I heard footsteps. It was a habit of his to nervously wander around when he felt anxious.

"She's getting suspicious but I think I can manage. I'm just not sure it'll trigger her memory enough. He's in her head every night. She screams in her sleep, mumbles names and the things he wants her to do. When she wakes up it's forgotten," Draco said. My eyes widened. This must be a lie ! I would certainly know if I screamed in my sleep. I don't know what motivated Draco to act like this but I also didn't care. All I cared about was my survival and if Albus Dumbledore wouldn't be dead by the end of this year I doubted I'd live much longer.

I didn't fear Voldemort but I knew when I was outnumbered.

"Okay so the Ball is next weekend. Everyone knows what to do," Harry spoke and Draco's footsteps halted.

"I don't know what to do if this doesn't work," he said and he sounded almost desperate.

There was a long pause before Harry finally spoke up again.

"It will work," he said sternly.

Not if I can stop it, I thought myself.
