Seeing her dance closely with the american was far away from pleasant yet I couldn't bring myself to do anything about it. I watched her talk with him, read every of her facial expressions. They were the same one's she had shown to me ever since she came here. Flirting, smugness, superiority and maybe even a hint of danger. As I saw her talk to him that way, realizing she was doing the same thing to him and that she was merely doing it to pass her time I finally realized what strange thing had been nagging at me. What had been the reason I felt guilt every time I'd return her physical affections.

I was homesick.

Homesick for Lia, for the girl I had danced with on the astronomy tower and not the girl who danced with strangers in my manor.

''Are you okay, son?'' my mother asked in worry as she appeared beside me. I didn't answer her, just let my eyes stay on Lia.

''It's a shame...what happened to her...'' my mother sighed as she followed my gaze and I clenched my jaw.

The music ended and Lia took the guys hand and they went off. It made me feel queasy, seeing her leave with someone I didn't know. I was always protective of her, even though now the last thing she needed was my protection.

''Go after her,'' my mother whispered, sensing my discomfort.

I immediately took off.  Lia was easy to spot with her red dress, that magnificent red dress that almost made me forget my discomfort about her, and I kept following them from a safe distance.

Eventually she and the guy ended up outside and I hid behind a tree, watching them. There was a stolen bottle of some alcohol in Lia's hand and she laughed, kicking off her shoes before taking a chug from the bottle. The guy took it from her and drank too, joining her in her laughter.

''Now, tell me something interesting about america and why I should go with you,'' she mused. I widened my eyes and sucked in a harsh breath.

''We know you can do marvellous things, darling. You'd be of much greater use with us then with them,'' the guy said.

I wanted to punch him. She was a human being, not a device to win a war.

Lia scrunched her nose up and my heart clenched at the sight. It was an old habit of hers and she had always done it when she talked to me, back before our relationship had consisted of making out and then ignoring each other. Oddly enough I missed those days when we detested each other.

''It doesn't sound like you could offer me something that I don't already have,'' she said.

The guy walked up to her, slightly swaying in his step. He placed his arm around her waist and pulled her close.

''We could offer you to live in the greatest country in the world, far away from your old life. You're a princess stuck in a castle here. But with us? Honey, you could be a queen,''

Then he dove down to kiss her.

I jumped out from behind the tree, the jealousy in me causing me to pull out my wand. Yet before I could do anything I heard a loud gasp, making me halt. The guy stepped away from Lia and I could see her look down at herself with wide eyes, her hand coming down to hold her stomach. I furrowed my brows and looked at the guy. Finally I saw it. The bloody knife he held in his hand.

''LIA!'' I called out. A dumb move as the guy turned around and shot a curse at me for which I wasn't prepared for. I was hurtled against the wall of the manor and groaned as I collided with it. When I pushed myself up again I could see flashes of curses running through our garden.

''Come on, show me what you can do!'' the guy called before shooting another curse at her. She easily flicked it away with her hand and then raised her arm to the ground. Suddenly thick vines erupted from it all around him and he fought them off with his wand. Lia then moved her fingers and a blade appeared out of thin air which she threw at the guy with precision. He apparated away before it could hit him and appeared in front of her again.

''Come on! Show me! Show me what they did to you!'' he yelled before taking his own blade and pushing it into her shoulder. She didn't even scream in pain, just groaned. I got to my feet, ignoring the pulsating pain coming from my head.

Lia looked down at the blade stuck in her shoulder and grabbed it, pulling it out before looking back at her attacker. I stopped in my tracks as the moonlight revealed her face. Her eyes were almost slits and her nose scrunched up in an animalistic way. Was she growling at him?

She opened her mouth and revealed her sharp teeth, making her look almost like a vampire, while lightning from the sky struck all around us

She opened her mouth and revealed her sharp teeth, making her look almost like a vampire, while lightning from the sky struck all around us.

''Ah yes, there it is. The hidden power of the Kim family. Did you seriously think we would let something as dangerous as you walk around?'' the guy said in disgust before he laughed cruelly. He was too focused on the sight to see the danger of the situation. Lia surged forward and he yelled in pain. I could do nothing but watch as she dug her teeth into his neck to rip a piece of skin out before her hand would shoot through his chest. She looked back at him, her mouth covered in blood.

Then she smiled, a cold smile that didn't reach her eyes, before she ripped her hand back out of his chest

Then she smiled, a cold smile that didn't reach her eyes, before she ripped her hand back out of his chest. His still beating heart was in her hand as she looked up to the moon. The lightning growled through the night and illuminated her form.

I felt my knees give out in that moment.

Lia breathed heavily, her chest heaving. Blood covered it and I let out a broken sound, making her look at me.

It might have been the fact that I had hit my head but for a second, just a mere moment, I swear I could see desperation in her eyes, as if the old Lia, my Lia, was begging me to end this misery.

At that moment I made a decision. I would do it for her. I would bring her back.

Even if it meant I might lose her.
