Chapter Forty One

Nearly Caught

We were all celebrating the win today. Charles was pulled out from the crowd of spectators and teammates. The sponsors were talking to him and Hawk for full five minutes. By the looks of Charles's super bright smile, I think he just formally bag one scholarship. He shook the guy's hand with UCLA pin in his classy business suit. The way he walks like he was on high as he approaches us said it all, he is going to college with a guaranteed scholarship.

"Yeah! I did it!" he celebrated; our parents, sister and friends jumping in happiness at his account. "I'll be having my practice game with UCLA this summer dad, mom! Can you believe it! I'm official a UCLA student!"

"Nope, not until you graduate high school you silly boy!" mom teases.

"Yeah yeah whatever mom!" There's nothing that can dampen his high spirited mood.

"Charles party tonight my house!" Hawk shouted among the crowd.

"Be there!" he cheered. "Better have my shower, guys I'll see in the house later!"

We watch him skip like a toddler toward the boy's locker room. The others don't know what Trench had just done for Charles to get that spot light he got. The guy just disappeared even before the fourth quarter ended. He didn't join the game as he said in his text. The way he was seated in the bench earlier looks like he was watching a game in his huge flatscreen without any popcorn in his mouth. The coach threw him hundreds of glares the remaining games. I think his stubbornness was the cause of it.

I'm not sure how I felt about him. There are so many things I'm considering right. Whether to let him off the hook because of what his mistakes had done to me and the way he jeopardized our sources of income. But the unexpected kiss we shared earlier almost convinced me to just forget what he had done and forgive him.

Could I really move past that easily? What's preventing me not to? Taking him in isn't a lose-lose game, rather it will be a win-win for us. He already helped us even before we can establish our relationship again. What more reasons to convince me not to take him back?

None.

I don't think he will blow this thing again. He had tasted the consequences. He lost me and he did anything to win me back, regardless of the way he force things out of me. Still, that is trying, than nothing at all.

He assured me we can be sneaky about us –which is good for the both of us. My dad and brother will be angry if they found out what I have done. We need time to heal every misunderstanding that came in our way and created distance before we can fix something fixable. Nothing is late. We can still start fresh.

"You coming to celebrate tonight in that party tonight, right?" Marty pulled me into a halt.

"Yeah" I confirmed. Trench would be expecting me to come. It's time for me to do well on my side of the bargain.

"Good good," she cheered. "It's been awhile since you last tasted cheery vodka and margarita. Beers can be overrated but we both know we don't want that stuff," Marty mumbled, "I need a sexy attire for tonight that will make Ivan drool his chin of," she planned.

"Like that's new, wear a skimpy dress and both of you will disappear the entire night" Hanley pipe up.

"Erin, you should wear something shor-"

"Fuck no" Hanley snapped. "We don't want any repeat where I beat up a dude and ended up breaking his nose scenario, are we now Marty?" he challenged.
