Chapter 65

I never let go Myles since that dreadful note came smashing our window. Call me paranoid or overreacting but I won't take any chances. This is my daughter in the line of fire we are talking about. Nine months of caring her in my womb. Painful labor I had undergone just to bring her to see the world. Late nights of waking up just to breastfeed her. Lulled her to sleep even if my arms are aching for carrying the whole day because she cries if she isn't sleeping in my arms. Buy her the things she wanted as long as my budget can accommodate it. Love her with my whole life, more than my life.

I would never be the same again if she was taken from me.

I just need to hold on.

And I hope Trench will be here soon, because we need him more than ever. I need to tell him the situation I am facing now. He is the only who can assure me that everything will be fine, that he will be here overprotecting Myles from now on.

"Sum," Charles's voice broke my trance of thoughts.

"Yeah?" I asked, adjusting my hold on my daughter. She was sleeping peacefully thank god. I hope my baby wouldn't have nightmares tonight.

"It's already midnight, why are you still awake?" he asked.

"I couldn't sleep," I admitted, "the note keeps me anxious."

Charles sat carefully on the foot of the bed. "Want me to stay here? I'll sleep on the floor, the sleeping bag is as comfortable as my bed," he offered.

That's really a good idea, but I can't let Charles do that for me. Quite frankly, I think I couldn't sleep even if my stepbrother is here. "Nah, not really necessary,"

"You sure?" his voice was reluctant to let me and Myles alone in our room tonight.

"Ya,"

"Thank god you still live with mom and dad, or we will be worrying about you and Myles ," he sighed.

"Couldn't afford to pay for rents and pay someone babysitting my munchkins here if mom and dad kicks me out, remember?" I chortled. "My wage won't be enough to pay all of the expenses."

"It's a good thing huh you and that jerk is working things out," he leered, still bitter when Trench rejected him harshly. I couldn't blame Trench, he was still furious about me that time.

"Charles, I told you he-"

"Ya ya ya whatever, " he rolled his eyes.

"I'll try to talk to him about it okay," I tried to placate. I'll even beg Trench for it if it's only the way to convince him to give Charles job. "Go sleep, I'll try to catch sleep as soon as I can."

He opened his mouth to say something but the ring of the doorbell stopped him. We stared at each other in bewilderment. No sane person will disturb the residents of the house in the middle of the night. Who could that be?

"Stay here, I'll check who is it," Charles warned me seriously. "I'll yell if there is something wrong okay? Don't follow me Sum, just hold on with my niece,"

"But,"

"Just stay here okay. There is a trooper outside watching the house. If the ringer is a threat he will not let someone near our door."

I bit my lip to stop my mouth from arguing. Charles got a point after all. "Okay,"

"Good." He left me there dealing with my anxiety and with my stomach churning in uneasiness. With all the bizarre and alarming things happening to us these days, no one can blame my hyper imagination producing negative and unhelpful scenarios.
