Kwon Jae Eun had never gone through detention her whole life.

And today was an exception.

An exception she made for him, just like every other instance.

They were both late for school because of the rain, and the having fun, of course.

She had portrayed her experience during detention in several ways when she was younger, in need of thrill.

She just never really expected herself to actually be able to escape the teacher's eyes, but after all, it was him that pulled it off for them both.

He was, evidently, good at it.

"An expert, huh."

She watches as his eyes press together into a curve the second his lips stretch to the side, she gulped.

How could she still feel that skip in her heart?

How could his smile be so beautiful?

She had no idea why she had only noticed it after knowing him.

Did she really not pay that much attention to him when he was Sohye's crush?

But Park Jimin knew it well.

The smile that appears every time he sees her flushed red cheeks, and her round eyes that would stare into everything as if they were worth a thousand dollars.

As if he was even worth it.

How could she love him the way he loves her?

How could she see him the way he sees her?

Jimin's hold on Jae's hand tightened as they ran pass the school gate.

As the both of them slowed down, Jae turned around to look at Jimin, her eyes sparkling.

"Wow, that was fun." she giggled, tucking a hair behind her ear.

Jimin felt his stomach stir, she was beautiful.

His silence made her confused, as she stares back at him, a small pout forming, "Jimin? You there?"

Jimin blinks, before smiling shyly.

"Yeah, I was carried away for a sec, I'm sorry, you were saying?" Jimin avoided her eyes at all costs while speaking.

She gave him a playful look, "Are you sure you're not just captivated by me?"

There it goes again.

His smile, his laughter.

It rang through her ears like Christmas bells, and at that point, she wished that the boy before her would be able to always laugh like this.

She was a little more selfish in that wish, hoping that she would be able to witness that happen.

If only she knew that she was the only source to that.

"I guess I got caught." Jimin shrugged, as if he wasn't just entranced by the girl before him.

"But don't get me started about how you stare at me the whole time too." Jimin challenged with a small eyebrow raise.

Jae rolled her eyes, adgusting her bag strap a little, she was getting nervous again.

"Hey! Be honoured."

Jimin gave her a smirk as he bends down closer to touch his nose with hers, "I am, Jae."

Jae would've backed away if she wasn't frozen in her place, but either way, she wasn't blinking the whole time he looked into her brown eyes.

"Jae?" Jimin called out, not moving away as he seeks for something in her crystal eyes.

"Hm?"

"How long is this going to last?" he asked with sincerity, fear flashing pass his eyes.

"What do you mean?"

"How long can I stay by your side? How long are you going to need me?" Jimin's eyes went on his shoes as his shoulders dropped.

"Jimin... what are you even talking about? I-i don't know about the future but at least I know that I'm going to need you for a very, very, long time." Jae cupped his cheeks and stared deeply into his eyes, caging his gaze like a prison cell.

Jimin was taken aback, but did not show it.

He was expecting her to say that, but he just could not believe it.

He trusts her, but he would never trust his luck.

He would never be lucky enough to have her.

"Why would you even think of asking me that, hm?" Jae frowned.

Jimin stepped back, finally breaking their eye contact as he grabs onto her hand again, "It's nothing. Let's go."

But she pulls him back with their held hands and her frown deepens, "It's not nothing, Jimin. It's everything. You are everything. Because right now I have nothing left except you, my mother, and Sohye."

Jimin bit his lips, "I-i've never experienced love, Jae. I can't give you what you want. I can't stay by your side, and I'll only bring danger to you. And... and the people I love tend to leave me, and throw me away, they just, don't want me anymore."

It was at that moment that Jae saw Park Jimin as the 17 year old teenager, in need of love, care, and protection. He was just a kid, and he deserved nothing less than what other kids receive. He deserved more.

"Idiot, I'm staying by your side for as long as you want me to, and for as long as I like to. Even if one day you stab me with a knife or tell me that you don't need me anymore, I'm still staying. Because I want to be with you, and I want to be with you forever. I want to be in your life forever. And if the day really comes where we're separating, I'll find you back, you hear me?"

At that point, Jae was already rambling, but Jimin knew, he knew that she was trying to ask him to let her love him.

And Jimin made a selfish wish that day.

That was to always, always, stay by her side.

And with that came his promise to protect her with all he has.

With all he is.

thank you for coming, and for staying.
