THIRD PERSON POINT OF VIEWSilence. It was all there was at the moment. After Sakusa's confession, no one said a word nor reacted to it, especially the brown-haired woman who sat across him.
Misaki wasn't sure if she heard him right. Did Sakusa just say he still loves me? She repeated that thought for minutes as the black-haired man patiently waited for a reply.
Letting out a deep sigh, Sakusa was the first to break eye contact as he looked down on his hands intertwined in hers. "We can start over again..." he said again, drawing small circles on her knuckles. "It doesn't immediately have to be the same before, we can start slow."
"I love you." Misaki's slurred words rang in his head; it was something that gave him hope.
She was drunk. The ace mentally grunted.
"Which means I'm telling the truth, right?" Her voice rang again.
Sakusa mentally and desperately prayed that hopefully, Misaki would give him a second chance. If ever she does, it would be his last shot and he knows not to waste it.
And so he waited, even if it would take minutes or hours to reply, he waited for Misaki. Heck, he'll wait even if it would take a week, a month, or another year for her to accept him back.
I'll wait—
"Sakusa-san, you can't be serious." Misaki finally spoke, scoffing. "You can't say that. Are you sure you didn't drink last night?"
"What?" The black-haired male furrowed his eyebrows. "I am serious."
"But you have Nanami-san."
"Daina?" He scrunched his nose. "We're just friends."
"Oh..." Misaki mumbled, nodding, then she slowly retracted her hands from Sakusa's that left him frowning as she hugged herself in her arms.
"I'm sorry." She said. "We can't."
Sakusa's eyes widened and shook as he saw that lifeless look on her face. But despite that, he stood from his chair with his hands on the table.
"Why?" He asked, trying to hide how shaky his voice was.
"I...don't think I feel the same anymore."
Lies. Misaki was just confused and that was the best response she could give.
Hearing those words were enough to make Sakusa's spirits drop as it sent an aching pain in his heart. The way she said it emotionlessly with an unwavering expression had goosebumps rushing up his skin.
Sakusa shook his head, pushing further.
"Then I'll make you fall for me again." He sternly stated. "Give me a chance to."
Knitting her eyebrows, Miskai shook her head in disbelief. "You can't just waste your time like that." She said. "There is more to life than just love, Sakusa. You know that..."
"...besides, I have other priorities to focus on." She continued. "Work, family, and myself."
How nostalgic. Sakusa was well aware how familiar this scene was and he regret saying those very words. But he didn't regret focusing on volleyball and studies, he was successful after all, he just regretted pushing away that one priority he failed to prioritize.
"It was a one time mistake. I regretted it...trust me!" Believe me, Saki. "Just...please give me another chance." Sakusa's voice slightly raised, but not in an angered manner.
