The Whole Picture

Kaelynn's P.O.V.

This all made no sense. Absolutely no sense, whatsoever. Ciara isn't my mom, because then she would have died in the fire along with my dad. I had no reason to believe her. She's a stranger I barely know who wants children because she wasn't able to have children. Yeah, that's it. But, that doesn't explain the baby pictures that Ciara has that looks like Char and I. Maybe she was stalking us? Now, I sounded ridiculous.

I texted Tam, wanting somebody to talk to. She responded in minutes, thus beginning our very long conversation of the situation. It got so deep, we had to continue through a phone call.

"...Kaelynn, I think you should believe her," Tam insisted. "Why does she have to lie? And, you two do really look like her."

"Tam, you have to look at the whole picture--"

"I am looking at the whole picture. And what I'm saying is that she has earned your trust, so why would she want to lose it? I know she really cares about you."

Why does she always have to be right? Maybe I'm not mad about it sounding like she isn't trustworthy. "I'm just mad that she lied to us," I whispered out my thoughts.

"Oh, Kaelynn," her tone sounded sincere instead of serious and very in-charge-like. "I wish I could hug you right now. I see where you're coming from, and I understand."

Even more tears made an appearance. "I feel so alone. Who can I trust?"

"Kaelynn...I don't know what to say. But, it's going to be okay. Just believe her on this. Nobody would joke about parenting, I swear. Maybe she had a good reason."

I nodded, but realized she wasn't physically here with me. "Yeah. But, if she is our birth mom, like she says she is, I wonder who my dad is."

"Ask her! It won't hurt!"

I sighed into the phone. "I can't just randomly ask 'Who's my dad?', Tam."

"Hey. If she told you that she's your mother, you have the right to know your birth dad. Otherwise, it wouldn't be fair, you know?"

I also love that she's always right.

"Yeah," was all I could answer.

"Where are you?" She asked.

I looked around and noticed the sky darkening. Dang. I must have been wondering around for a while. "I have no idea. But, I'm away from them."

Tamara sighed. "When will you stop wandering around?"

"Whenever people will stop playing with me like I'm some game. Look, I'll call you later."

"Okay. Don't you dare run away from them! I'm serious, Kaelynn!"

"Yeah, yeah. 'Bye." I hung up on my friend then turned around. Absolutely nobody was around. I was alone. This was bad. Very bad. Especially since in five minutes it will be completely dark outside.

A quick glance at my phone made me consider calling Ciara. No, nope. I won't seem helpless, even though I kind've am. I can get back to the hotel all by myself.

But, what if I don't want to?

I could just buy a plane ticket and go home, pack my things, and act like I was never there. Like I never met her. Like I was before. But, that also meant leaving my sister. Although, I wouldn't really mind. She's happy, and that's all I care about. Then again, Tam told me not to run away. And I sorta agreed not to.

Forget it, I'm going back to the hotel. I went back the way I came, searching for anything that was familiar. As predicted, blackness overcame the sky. No moon was in sight. Only stars. And I became just a little scared. But, I didn't call for help. I'm not that stupid that I would yell, and then somebody come and kidnap me, then I'll never see Char's pretty smile ever again. I may be a moron for getting lost, but I wasn't an idiot.
