Kaelynn's P.O.V.
"MAMA!" I had screamed once the truck stopped flipping. I was so scared because it all happened so fast. First we were just talking happily, now we're upside down in the truck. My left arm hurt really bad, and I looked to see it was in front of Mom. Her breathing was slow... I didn't like it at all.
"Char? Are you okay?" I asked, remembering my sister.
"Y-yeah," she weakly answered.
"Oh my God, are you hurt?"
"A little. Is Mommy okay?"
I started to cry, because Mama wasn't answering. She didn't move or anything. She was still leaned back in her seat, still holding my hand. "I don't know, Char," I cried.
I smelled something funny. It smelled like...gas. My eyes widened as realization hit me. The truck was going to explode.
"CHAR GET OUT!" I screamed, unbuckling my seatbelt and trying to wiggle my way out. I heard the back door open, and assumed my sister was freed. All I wanted was for her to be safe. Her and my mother.
I felt pulling on my arm and saw Char pulling me. "NO! LEAVE, CHAR! STAY AWAY!"
"I have to help you, KayKay!" Charlize said, and by the way she sounded, she was crying.
I wiggled more, and tried to ignore the pain in my sides. My head hit the roof as I escaped the upside-down seat. "Char, I'm okay! GET AWAY!"
I saw her leave my side, so I opened the door and rolled out. I took deep breaths, lucky that my door wasn't jammed closed. Blood slid down the sides of my body and legs, and I felt a bit dizzy. But one thing was on my mind. And that was to free my mom. My head spun around, and I saw a flare rise from the bottom of the truck. I gasped and limped to the other side of the truck, where I saw Charlize kicking the glass.
"Char, leave! I got her!"
"NO! I'M NOT LEAVING, WE HAVE TO SAVE HER!" Char wiped her eyes, and I knew she wasn't going to leave. I knew she cared too much about this woman to just leave her. So, I'll just have to let her be.
I helped my sister kick at the window, and it broke, being fragile from the accident. The flame was a little bigger, and I started to panic. I reached in and unhooked her seatbelt, then started pulling on her, all while Char and I yelled her name, begging for her to wake up.
Her upper body was out the car, and I reached in to help her lower body out.
By then, I could feel the heat from the flames and panicked even more. Our mom can't die like this, she just CAN'T!
"CHAR, PULL HARDER!" I commanded, pulling her legd harder. Char's grunts confirmed that she heard and was doing as I had said.
From behind, I heard shouting in the distance. But, I ignored it, and only concentrated on the task at hand. The flames were growing bigger by the second, and I couldn't risk my sister's life.
"CHAR, YOU HAVE TO LEAVE!" I yelled, and this time she listened to me. The feeling of her arms left mine, and it was all me. My mom's life depended on me.
My hands tightly grasped her thighs, as I struggled to breathe in the hot air. Sweat was built upon my forehead, and everything seemed to go in slow motion. I used all my strength to pull her legs from the seat, and I gasped as I felt glass scrape against my stomach. But I was determined to be successful, for once. The weight of the truck was off of my mom, and I could finally pull her out. She wasn't super heavy, and I could drag her a few feet away from the truck, just before it exploded. On instinct, I covered up my mom as my back heated up.
The dizziness over took my body, and I saw darkness.

The sounds of beeping filled my ears, and I slowly opened my eyes. Machines surrounded me, and needles were in my arms. Char was smiling at me, and I smiled back. We made it through the explosion after all.
"Hey, KayKay," she quietly greeted.
"Hey, Char," I said in the same voice. I patted her fluffy hair and chuckled. "How long have I been out?" I had noticed balloons and cards and gifts on my bedside, and smiled.
"Almost two weeks."
My eyes widened. "Who took care of you???"
"Tam and Ti. I just said they were my aunts, because I'm so light skinned."
I chuckled at that, because Char did look mixed. Then I look to my right and gasped. Our mom laid there, the heart monitor beating slowly.
"Mom..." I whispered, feeling the tears behind my eyes.
"She hasn't woken up, KayKay," Char sadly said to me.
"She has to! She can't leave us like this! I love her too much!" I was crying now. I mean, she has to wake up. She's not going to die now. She's so young, and has so much to look forward to. Especially with us by her side.
Char leaned her head on my arm. "I don't want her to die," she cried, and I patted her hair again.
"She's not going to die. She's going to wake up, and we'll all live like the happy family we are! And she's gonna live when she's so old she can't think straight! And...and..."
I looked at how pale and fragile her body looked. And, I don't know if my eyes are tricking me, but I swear I could see a hint of a smile on her beautiful face.
"...And if she does die now, she'll be happy. Because we're right here with her...and we love her...and she loves us. Mama's going to Heaven, where our dad will be waiting for her. And they'll be ready to watch over us."
