Unexpected

Not prepared

"Meredith why do you say this? You would be an awesome mother. You care about everyone." Derek said trying to comfort his wife. "I don't know anything about being a mother, or pregnancy in general. I mean I'm a doctor but I don't know anything about this." Meredith said still crying. "We can work through this. I promise we will make sure we are ready" Derek said holding his wife. "Ok" Meredith said wiping her eyes. "Tomorrow we will, lets get some sleep." Derek said as he brought her to their bed. Meredith laid in silence. Derek let Meredith put her head on his chest, that usually makes her feel comforted. "Goodnight Mer, I love you" he whispered in her ear. "Goodnight, love you too" Mer replied. Meredith fell asleep Derek couldn't fall asleep he was worried for Meredith. He didn't know what they were going to do. Meredith didn't know much about being a mother or pregnancy. This would be a long night. It was around 1 am when Derek was finally able to go to sleep. He slept until 6 am when he was woken up from Meredith puking. "Aww Mer, are you okay" Derek asked as he held her hair back. "What does it look like" Meredith said angrily. Derek knew it was just her hormones causing her to be cranky. "Ok, I'm sorry" Derek sighed. Derek decided to start the bath. He knew Meredith loved bubble baths. As the bath filled up enough, Derek added the bubbles. He got in first then Meredith got in. Derek held Meredith close knowing that she wasn't feeling good. "Later after you feel better we are going to talk about your pregnancy, what you should expect and what would happen" Derek said as he kissed Mers cheek. "Ok, but I'm going to need food and water. I haven't eaten in a day and I haven't drank water since yesterday". Meredith said as she glanced at Derek. "Mer, you need to make sure you eat and drink" Derek said quietly. "I know" Mer said softly. It was now 7:40, Meredith and Derek finally got out of the bath. "So are you ready to talk?" Derek asked. "Yes" Meredith said quietly. "So basically, your going to change a lot, your going to have morning sickness for at least the first trimester, you will need to take some hours off of work. Your feet will hurt, your back will hurt and your breasts will hurt. You will be hormonal really hormonal, you will crave a lot of  of things and since I'm the best husband in the world, I will help with your cravings. You will be tired and probably lightheaded for the first and second trimester." Derek explained. "Thank you" Meredith said. "Your welcome. I have to get to work. Owen said you didn't have to go in today if you don't want to." Derek said calmly. "I want to, but I don't want anyone to find out" Mer sighed. "No one will find out." Derek said quietly. "Let's go we need to leave" Meredith said as she grabbed an apple and a water bottle as she walked out to the car. "Ok" Derek said as he followed her.
