Unexpected

How do we break the news?

Amelia was walking down to the ER to see a patient. She hadn't heard from Meredith or Derek about how the baby is and the gender yet so she was anxiously find out. When she finally made it to the ER she saw Cristina. Amelia went over to Cristina hoping that Meredith or Derek has told her the gender of the baby all ready. "Hey Cristina. Has Meredith or Derek told you the baby's gender yet?" She asked. "What baby?" Cristina chuckled. "Wait. Is Mer-." "Pregnant yes, I thought she told you" Amelia said cutting Cristina off. "Uh no she hasn't told me" Cristina replied shocked. "Oh my- do not tell her I told you, please I'm begging you" Amelia pleaded. "I won't. But why do you think she is keeping it a secret from me?" Dr yang asked. "I probably wouldn't of known if I didn't ask her" Amelia replied. "She's just not telling anyone yet. She'll tell you soon I promise" Amelia laughed walking away. She felt so dumb she thought Cristina would have known. Meanwhile Meredith was scrubbing into a
5 hour long surgery hoping she could do the whole thing. At least she was scrubbing in with Bailey so if her feet or back started hurting she could step back. While Meredith was almost done scrubbing Bailey walked in the scrub room. "Are you ready for this surgery" Bailey chuckled. "You know it" Meredith laughed. "Bailey I might need to step out a couple of times. If that's okay" Meredith said shyly since they still haven't told Bailey about the pregnancy. "Oh ok that's fine just let me know" Bailey replied as Meredith finished scrubbing and walked into the OR. Soon Bailey finished scrubbing and Meredith made the first cut. 2 hours into the surgery Merediths back started to throb alerting her to take a break. "Bailey. I need to step out for a couple of minutes. Can you handle this?" She asked. "Of course Dr Grey, hurry up" bailey replied continuing the operation. With that, Meredith took her gloves of and ran out to the hallway to sit on a gurney for a couple of minutes. When she got out there Cristina approached her. "Hey Mer, why aren't you in your surgery?" She asked. "I uh was coming to call the baby sitter to see how the kids are doing. I like to check in" Meredith lied. "Mer I know you're lying" Cristina said. "I'm not lying" Mer chuckled nervously. "That's not what Amelia said earlier" Cristina muttered. "What, you know?" Meredith gasped. "Yes why didn't you tell me" Cristina replied clearly angry. "I was scared of miss carrying I still can't believe I was able to carry the twins. I'm sorry I was going to tell you but I wanted to wait until our 12 week ultrasound to make sure she is okay" Meredith said putting her hand on her growing bump. "She, it's a girl" Cristina smiled. "Yes" Meredith chuckled. "I'm not mad, but congratulations and you might want to get back to the OR before Bailey kills you" Cristina said standing up and walking away. Mer got up and walked back into the OR quickly scrubbing and getting back to work. She wanted to scream at Amelia but anyone in the hospital would've expected her to tell Cristina right when she found out. About another hour into surgery Meredith messed up a stitch and her hormones kicked in making her wanting to cry. She was trying so hard not to cry but then she couldn't stop the tears. She was trying to silent cry until Bailey looked up and saw her tear stained face. "Grey what the hell?" She asked. "Sor-ry" Mer said in between cries. "Do you need to step out, or Derek or something" Bailey questioned. "No I'm fine" Meredith said still crying. "Then why are you crying so damn much" Bailey chuckled. "Because" Meredith stopped before she could say to much. She made eye contact with Bailey hoping she could read eyes. "Ohhhh" Bailey smiled. Not saying anything because there were nurses in the OR. "Can you guys step out for a couple of minutes" Bailey politely asked. The nurses agreed and walked out leaving Bailey and Meredith. "You're pregnant again. Geez Grey, I'm happy for you." Bailey smiled. "Thank you" Meredith replied. "How far are you? Is it healthy" Bailey questioned. "I'm 12 weeks and she is extremely healthy." Meredith smiled. "Another girl. Derek and Bailey will loose their minds" Bailey laughed. They finished up the surgery and Meredith made her way to the attending lounge to sit on the couch until Derek got off. She couldn't wait to tell Amelia and the kids the gender of the baby.
