Unexpected

Bailey Grey-Shepherd has been in the hospital for a week now while Alex, Arizona and Miranda thought of a plan to get him cancer free. "I think if we shrink the tumor with chemotherapy then it will get small enough for us to remove" Arizona sighed. "Yes I agree" Alex said. "Okay, let's go talk to the family." Miranda said as they walked towards baileys room. When they walked into his room they saw one sleepless mother who has been worried sick and a father who was the same and also a really sick kid. "Meredith" Arizona sighed. "Uh yeah" She answered. "We found a plan to get him cancer free. We aren't sure if it will work though but we are hopeful" Arizona smiled. "What is it" Derek asked. "Well we will shrink the tumor with Chemotherapy and then we should be able to remove it" Alex answered. "We just need consent and we will start tomorrow" Miranda said. "We consent" Meredith and Derek said loudly. "Amazing" Arizona said as all the doctors on Baileys case walked out of the room. Bailey was sleeping that whole time. He has been worried what he would tell his sisters and friends. "Bails" Meredith shook him awake. "What" he sighed. "We think we found a way for you to beat this cancer" she smiled. "Really" he asked. "Yes you will need this stuff called chemotherapy which will start tomorrow and then some surgery if it works out well." Derek smiled as he looked down on Baileys pillow seeing some of his blonde hair. "Meredith" Derek sighed motioning to the pillow. "Bails, you also will loose your hair for now" Meredith frowned. "I will?" He said sadly. "Yes but it will grow back when you are better" Derek said as he hugged him. "We are going to tell Zola and Ellis today" Meredith sighed. "I don't want them to be scared" Bailey sighed. "It's ok, it's better if they know" Meredith said as she held him close. "Meredith I'm going to call my mom so she knows what's going on" Derek said. Meredith nodded and Derek left the room to call his mom.
"Hey mom" Derek sighed. "Hey Derek how have you guys been?" Carolyn asked. "Well that's why I am calling, Bailey is really sick with cancer." Derek cried. "Oh- my- I should come down with your sisters" Carolyn said sounding panicked. "Mom don't panic. We have a plan to get him cancer free but we don't know if it will work" Derek sighed. "We are coming down tonight" Carolyn said in a panic. "Mom, calm down" Derek tried to calm her. "I am calm. I'll see you tonight tell Bailey I love him" She said as she hung up. Derek made his way back into baileys room. "Well my mom and sisters are coming tonight, I tried to stop them but it's not easy" Derek sighed. "That's ok" Meredith said. "I'm going to go get the girls from school and bring them here so We can tell them" Derek said as he kissed Bailey and Mers forehead and then headed out of the room. He hated seeing his son like that. Derek made his way towards the school to pick up the girls. When they got in the car Derek told them they were going to the hospital to spend time with Bailey. They kids nodded and talked about their school day. When they got to the hospital parking lot Derek picked Ellis up and held Zola's hand as they walked into the ER. They made their way up to Baileys peds room. "Bailey" Ellis said running in. "I missed you" she giggled. "I missed you too" he answered. Zola came in and just sat next to Meredith. "Ok guys we have to tell you something" Meredith said lifting Ellis onto Baileys bed. "So, you know how Bailey is really sick and hasn't been home in a while" Meredith asked. "Yes" Both Zola and Ellis said. "Well, Bailey has cancer" Meredith said as some tears fell out of her eyes. "Doesn't that kill people?" Zola asked sounding scared. "Kill" Ellis cried. "Sometimes it kills people but we can help Bailey" Derek sighed. "We don't know if it will completely help him but we can hope" Meredith said. All 3 kids and Meredith and Derek got into a group hug. After some tears were exposed and some words were said Derek wanted to lighten the mood. "Guys I have a surprise" He smiled. "What is it" Bailey laughed. "Well, your grandma and aunts are coming tonight" Derek smiled. "I get to see aunt Amelia" Ellis giggled she loves Amelia. "Yes" Meredith laughed. "When will they be here" Zola and Bailey asked. "They just got to the Airport so probably a couple of hours" Derek said. "Yay I missed them" Bailey smiled. "Me too" Zola said. "Me also" Ellis chimed in.
