Jisung didn't move a muscle nor answer a single call from his friends that sat next to him. Time felt as if it was in slow motion. It was like a dimension where only Jisung alone existed. His mother's voice echoed through his mind.
"They are going to sell the house, Ji."
They can't. That place is the roof above their head. It's their home.
"Please, mom, I can help" Jisung begged her. Jisu cupped her son's face. "I know you can, and I know how willing you are to do all of this for us." She paused in her sentence, shaking her head. "But I don't think we can pay all of this in a year's time."
But Jisung stood his ground. "Mom, I will find a job as soon as possible. I don't want you to end up in debt even more." Jisu sighed. She knew she couldn't change his mind once he set his eyes on a goal. "Thanks, Ji." She pulled him into her embrace, staying like that for a while.
Jisung heard the door of his class creak open, revealing their teacher. "Okay class, open your books on book page number 20," she spoke as the class filled with collective groans once again.
It's been a few days yet Jisung still didn't show up at school. Minho kept his gaze set on the door, knowing that Jisung probably wouldn't show up in class today either. "Is there something else going on?" The thoughts continuously lingered in his head. When Minho looked back to the time before the male disappeared, he felt as if Jisung was avoiding him too. The memories started getting back to him as he wasn't paying attention in class anymore.
Minho entered the bathroom as Jisung was washing his hands. "Hey," Minho greeted him but Jisung was quick to excuse himself and practically run away from him. Minho was confused as to why he was in such haste but just shrugged his shoulders, shaking the thought at the back of his head off.
The next day at the library was just the same as the day before. Minho walked past different aisles until he noticed Jisung standing at the end of the one, and walked toward him. "What book are you looking for?" He asked, leaning closer to Jisung as he searched the plank. Jisung's body became restless again as he fiddled with his shirt. "I have to go." he excused and walked off without sparing him a single glance. Minho looked down, furrowing his brows, returning to scrolling down the bookshelves. "Why is he ignoring me? Is it something I did wrong?"
"Mr. Lee?"
"Mr. Lee!" The teacher slammed her hand on his desk, making him snap out of his daze. Minho bowed slightly, muttering an apology. Chan placed a hand on his shoulder. "He will show up. Don't worry." Minho nodded at him but his focus was still somewhere else. The hours only seemed to go slower and he just couldn't wait until this boring day ended. Although the rest of his day didn't go smooth either.
The sound of a shattering pot clattered on the tiles as Minho flinched in his place. "Why the hell did you plant sunflowers?" His dad showed a disapproving look. "That is my own business. Plus, this is the balcony of my room and not yours, so I don't see why I shouldn't!" Minho shot back. This is how it went almost every day, he and his dad fighting. His father's expression darkened in anger. He held up an envelope Minho knew all too well.
"Your report card came in." Minho already knew what was coming and avoided the disappointed look from his dad. "If I see another report of yours with such disgraceful grades, I will force you to do homeschooling again." His father ripped the report card into shreds, throwing it away in the trash can right in front of Minho's eyes. It was no big deal. That was just how his life was. In his father's eyes, he would never be enough.
