Lately, Chan and Minho hadn't been on speaking terms. After that outfall, they had, with each other, buried emotions that created tension once more. The worst part, they caught Hyunjin right in the middle. The sound of the bell sent everyone sprinting to their next lesson, creating immense chaos in the hallways, yet Minho and the Australian kept their distance, remaining a two-meter gap between them. A sigh left from Hyunjin's mouth. "Is there literally no other way to solve this?" he asked. No response. "Come on, guys, aren't we friends?"
Minho huffed. "Friends who can't even be supportive?" he snarled, storming off. Chan mumbled something inaudible and walked away as well, into a completely other direction, leaving Hyunjin on his own. "Leaving me behind, seriously?" the male questioned with disbelief written all over him.
"Guess I'll have to save our friendship another time."
Hyunjin leaned his face into his palm, staring at the hands of the clock, the sound of its ticking having a hypnotizing effect. He almost got scared to death once the obnoxiously loud sound of the bell snapped him out of his trance. Hyunjin held his hand to his chest, in hopes of calming his upset heart as the man looked out of it.
Once he looked up, he noticed practically everyone was gone already, earning a huff from the male. "Not even waiting for me." Hyunjin pouted as he stuffed his things back in his bag, slugging it over his shoulder.
Hyunjin grabbed a coat from the rack, dialing a number in the other hand. He waited for a few seconds until it got picked up, celebrating an internal victory once it did. "Wanna grab some coffee with us?" Hyunjin asks.
"No. I have to practice." Minho cut short, earning a frown from his friend.
"How can he be practicing this late?" Hyunjin thought to himself. After a silence, he spoke again hesitantly. "Alright.."
"Good luck practicing then."
"Sure." the other answered. Another silence followed and Minho waited as if hesitant to say it. "Listen, you go enjoy your date with Chan. I can handle it on my own." And with that, Minho hung up, not giving Hyunjin the chance to respond.
Hyunjin wrapped his fingers around the hot cup, watching the damp still come from it. "I know I said we should trust him, but I'm worried." he finally admitted with a furrow. Chan looked up from his cup to face Hyunjin. "What makes you think that?" the older questioned. "Look outside Chan, it's pitch-black dark and he is still practicing." Chan closed his eyes, taking a breath in. "Did something else happen? Has he even said anything?" Hyunjin looked back at his cup. "No, not yet. But he's distant, Chan."
"It's like he doesn't even want to listen." Chan scathed under his breath.
The taller observed his boyfriend who refused to look at him, searching for an eye contact that wasn't there to begin with. No matter how hard Chan tried to hide it now, Hyunjin could see right through him. "I know you are scared that he'll overwork himself as well. You said so the first day."
Chan's hand twitched, gripping the coffee cup even tighter. "So what can we do, Hyunjin?!" he snapped, earning a perplexed gaze from the other as he flinched back a bit. Chan pointed outside as if to make a point clear. "He is outside, going to ruin himself and we are in here doing nothing but sipping on fucking coffee!"
"Chan." Hyunjin reached out for him as if trying to calm him down, but his hand got smacked away.
"What is he?! Fucking stupid?!"
Chan's eyelids got heavy as he slowly sat back down in his seat. The back of his head slumped against the back area of the couch. "He is signing up for destroying himself.." he whispered. Tears formed, burning in his bloodshot eyes. "They are going to ruin him.."
"And we are doing nothing."
The next day seemed like another typical day as Jisung entered the classroom where his friends awaited. "Hey," Felix smirked, nudging Jisung when the boy sat down next to him, seemingly lost in his own world. "What's with the smile, Ji?" Seungmin leaned in closer to interrogate his friend, always ready to tease him.
"Minho will be picking me up today. I haven't seen him in a while."
"Yes, yes, I see, flexing your boyfriend on us again." Seungmin rolled his eyes, receiving a hit to the chest. "As if you guys never did that to me. In case you forgot, you two dated before me." Jisung sassed back and turned his back on him as if to make a statement to which Felix shrugged, agreeing with him.
Jisung stood outside the gate, tapping his feet on the ground, occasionally checking his watch. "Where is he?" he mumbled to himself. Just then, Jisung heard footsteps rush towards him as he turned around to check, meeting an out-of-breath Minho. "I was waiting on you." Jisung crossed his arms to his chest. "I know, Love, sorry about that."
"It's okay if you don't want to go, you know? Then I wouldn't wait. I can walk home alone or with Seungmin and Felix next time."
Minho let out an aggravated sigh and interrupted. "Yes, I already told you I got it and I'm sorry. It won't happen again." Jisung eyed him skeptically as if taken aback but shook the weird feeling creeping up on him off. "Okay.." He pursed his lips together, not knowing what to say right now. "If you need to practice I can-"
"Let's just go." Minho cut him off. "Oh.. sure.."
Jisung was about to reach out for his hand, but reached into nothingness because Minho already stormed off. His frown turned deeper, watching him walk ahead. "What's with him?" the boy muttered, thinking out loud.
He is more distant than usual.
