Footsteps thumped over the marble. A clicking sound echoed through the empty halls. In the ill light, a silhouette grew onto the walls of the gigantic corridor.
Click. Clack. Stop.
The sound came to a halt as they held their hand over the lever, hesitating no moment and cracking it open, pushing the door with the might left in the man.
A shadow of a woman stretched over the floor, her demeanor outlined with the glint of the moon in the darkest of the night. "If you come here at this time of the night, I assume the plans have been set into work."
She tilted her head a fraction, the glaring of moonlight lighting her face. "Is this how you treat your guests?" A mocking scoff left her as she turned around fully this time. "You, of all people, should know your place. I'm sure you're already aware it takes one flick of our fingers."
"After all, it would be, how should I word it, a shame if the outside world found out about this. You wouldn't want them to know, would you, Mr. Han?"
"What's in it for me?"
"Your family."
Minho's mother sat in her seat, view gazing out into the gardens. She rubbed her forehead, a deepened frown creasing over her forehead. She reached out for her phone, dialing a number. It went over a few times while she waited silently and motionlessly until a creak sounded on the other line.
"You got the wrong one, you imbeciles." She gritted through her teeth, her voice lowered in a growl as if not wanting to be heard by anyone.
Minho's hospital room seemed brighter than usual. Maybe that was because everyone gathered there today. Through the chattering, which was all over the place since everyone had so much to say, there still laid this comfortable ambiance. For the first time, everyone remained in a good mood since the negative news finally came to an end. Minho smiled, looking around the room. Their company can be a hassle at times, but overall everyone clicks well.
"Okay, everyone." Felix announced, grabbing their attention, and dug in his bag thrown next to him. "I bought some to celebrate," he said, revealing two bottles of a fizzing drink. "Lix, it's not even alcohol," Seungmin reminded him, taking one of the bottles and checking the label. "Oh, hush." Felix held a finger against Seungmin's lips. "Someone still has to stay healthy!" Of course, Felix meant Minho who even though almost recovered should still watch what he consumes. Jisung chuckled at the couple and turned towards Minho. "Want a glass?" he asked, already filling one. Hyunjin eyed everyone in the room upon Felix's generous purchase. "I don't know about you guys, but pour me one!"
The room burst out laughing from Hyunjin's spontaneous desperation for a non-alcoholic beverage. He must be too out of it from trying to back off from the alcohol he'd been consuming. "Sure," Minho answered Jisung's question and took the glass Jisung offered. "Raise your glasses!" Felix and Chan spoke at the same time. The two exchanged a surprised glance with each other, sharing a moment of silence before a fit of giggles followed. "One, two,"
"Cheers!"
They clinked their glasses like it was a New Years' eve but that was past everyone's concern, the only thing on their mind was to celebrate. To Minho, it felt so strange. A good kind of strange? It's like he had conquered the top of a mountain everyone deemed as impossible. He finally did it. He fought even though he felt it would be useless.
Unfortunately, that feeling of accomplishment dissolved with every day that came closer to the therapy. It weighed like a rock in the pit of his stomach, becoming heavier, making him feel rather nauseous from the discomfort.
"Love, it's time to go." Jisung appeared from the corridor, causing Minho to pull a confused frown. "Jisung? what are you doing here?" It's the first day of his therapy and even though Minho was well aware someone would come to pick him up, he'd expected it to be a nurse or a doctor, Jisung was the last person Minho expected to see. "Well, I know you start therapy today and you might be feeling stressed or anxious, so I figured I could walk you there. I discussed with the nurse on my way here and she found it wasn't a problem."
A wry laugh escaped from Minho's lips. "Is it that easy to see?"
Jisung crossed his arms, letting himself lean against the doorpost. "I think I can figure you out by now, Lee Minho." he answered. It took so much for Minho to finally open up. "I don't know how to feel, Love. It felt great to stand again last time. But now, I am not so sure about that. I am nervous to do it again."
"I am scared I might fail, Jisung."
The younger sighed and crouched down beside him, putting a hand on top of Minho's. "And that's exactly why you are doing this, Minho." Jisung gave the other's hand a squeeze and offered him a loving glance. "Because I know you'll be strong and keep trying until you achieved what you wanted."
"Failing is not about not succeeding. Failing is when you give up without having fought for something yet. Even after you try multiple times and nothing worked, you still didn't fail, because you did everything you could."
"I know you will make me proud, Minho." Jisung reassured, drawing circles on the other's skin with his thumb. Minho exhaled and opened his eyes again. "Thank you, Jisung. You really know how to assure someone."
"That's my charm," Jisung winked, drawing out laughter from the other followed by a peck. "It is," Minho confirmed, staring into his Love's eyes. "Then," Jisung drifted off. "Do you think we can go now?" Jisung tilted his head ever so slightly yet he still managed to highlight all the cute features Minho loved so much about him apart from his presence and Jisung as a person.
It couldn't beat the way he stared into his eyes, however, because that is what intrigued Minho the most from the very beginning. He held such dept in them and you just had to look into them to know whatever Jisung did or felt was sincere.
Minho nodded, shoving the remaining nervousness past him. "Let's go."
If he had to go through obstacles in order to retrieve what he lost, he would.
