The evening is busy at it already is they could not afford distractions. With every passing minute, more people began gathering around the campsite, wearing things like colorful necklaces and bracelets glowing in the dark, with the most exposing clothes you could find. You shouldn't ask any of them why the teachers or supervisors even allowed this, cause the answer would be that they didn't know either. This is part of their Day of Reflections program, holding a huge BBQ banquet with loud music, flashing lights, and decorations hanging all over the trees, bushes, and lanterns. The only thing yet missing were the confetti pieces scattered all over the ground. But that would change in a few minutes. Hyunjin appeared on Chan's side, purposely bumping into him. Chan looked at him with a judging frown. "Why'd you bump into me?" he asked as Hyunjin put down the stack of plates with a smug face. "I wanted a reaction," he answered honestly. Back in the days, he wouldn't be so straightforward, but the man already outed all his feelings, so that wasn't a problem anymore. "You should work instead of begging for attention," Chan scolded, leaving Hyunjin to pout. "You are so cold."
"Hyunjin,"
Georgia walked over to him, shoving Chan slightly, which she ignored. "Can you help set up the party tent with me? I can't do it on my own." She tugged on his sleeve, complaining until Hyunjin insisted. Chan's jaw tightened as he stood there with crossed arms, watching how this girl kept starting skinship with someone he claimed his. Did she do this on purpose or is it just imagery of his mind? Hyunjin signed him with his eyes.
"Fine, I will help you set up that tent."
"I can help too." Chan insisted firmly. Georgia's gaze analyzed him up and down.
"Sorry, I just need Hyunjin's assistance. That's all." she replied.
Hyunjin grabbed Chan's shoulder, leaning close to his ear. "I'll be right back," he whispered softly. Chan was left speechless as he watched the two disappear into the distance.
"Do you think they will love this?" Jisung hung up the last string of lights. Minho dusted himself off and took a look around. "If this." He motioned around the place. "Is not enough for them, then I don't know what is." Jisung chuckled. He got what Minho meant. Maybe they did go a tad bit overboard, but an anniversary is special. At least Jisung thought so. His phone buzzed and he grinned. "Time to hide and turn this off." Jisung tugged at his boyfriend's arm, dragging him along, but first turning off all the lights until darkness ruled completely.
The cracking of branches filled the air and as expected a person appeared. Felix shivered, rubbing over his arms for warmth.
"Felix?"
Felix stopped in his tracks and was met with two brown eyes staring right back at him. Those brown eyes he fell in love with. "Seungmin?"
Then it hit him. "Did Ji set you up on this too?" he asked, stepping closer to sit down on the tree trunk in the middle of this open spot, in the midst of the forest. Only the stars prevented light. It was a surprise neither of them had stumbled over some branch. Seungmin muttered, "Ji, what is your plan.."
The hair over the Australian's bare arms still stood on edge as his teeth clattered. Seungmin untied his blazer and put it over him. Felix looked up at him with his doe eyes, his eyelashes fluttering in the moonlit night. The other cupped his face with one hand. Seungmin's head tilted to the side, his expression telling Felix he should have taken better care of himself. "Why didn't you cover up?" Seungmin asked, retreating his hand, rubbing over the Australian's arms so he could warm up instead. "Would it sound dumb if I told you I thought it wouldn't be so cold here in the forest?" Felix chuckled, embarrassed.
Suddenly a swarm of lights escaped, fluttering around gracefully, lighting up the blackness of the night. Felix stared up at the sky with wide eyes, scanning the area. He held his hand out in wonder, and to his surprise, one of the lights landed on him. "Fireflies?" he spoke breathlessly, a sparkle reflected in his swirls. The two of them didn't know where to look first as they continued gently twirling around them, flying all the way up as if to complete the vast night sky.
A click sounded, and with a split second, the entire place lit up, earning a gasp. "Seungmin, look!" Felix kept hitting him multiple times but Seungmin himself was too sucked into the beautiful scenery to react. Endless strings of fairy lights connected from one tree to the other with a few of them spun around their trunks. Finally, they could see that the two of them were actually sitting on not just a random tree in the middle of the forest. It was all decorated with flower petals over the ground and enough food to feed an entire land! And when Felix turned back to his boyfriend, he had a guitar in his hands. Felix furrowed his brows. "What are you doing?" he hackled a little, flustered.
"I ran away from you the first day but I'm not running off on our anniversary," Seungmin answered, a hint of joking in his voice, but also completely serious. Felix wanted to say something but Seungmin motioned for him to be quiet. "Just listen." he insisted, his finger touching Felix's lips then his hands moved to the guitar. His fingers covered the strings and after the first note, the other was already sold.
Seungmin turned himself towards the other. A soft smile tugged at his lips and he relaxed into the song, letting all his unspoken words and hidden emotions finally flow out. Everything that was ever held inside could now show its true colors. That's exactly why Seungmin feels so mesmerized by Felix. Felix had the ability to make everyone around him open up and be their true selves, something he couldn't do on his own. Cause for Seungmin that felt like being weak. The feeling of vulnerability, he hated it. Oh, how he had resented it in the past. But that was before Felix showed up in his life. Felix had painted his dark world with color. Eventually, he had become as necessary as the sun to this planet.
That's what Felix is to Seungmin, his sun. The one person that brightens up his day without doing anything in particular.
Jisung watched them silently. His eyes glistened. But there's a hidden emptiness in them. Minho saw it. He had noticed how strange Jisung had been acting since the start of this camp. The younger shifted as quietly as possible. "Let's leave them be together," he whispered, motioning for the other to come with.
The door closed behind them and Jisung shuffled towards his bunk, tipping over his bag on his bed. "This is not like you, Jisung." Minho mustered up the courage to say so. "Me tipping over my bag?" he asked genuinely confused. "No, you acting so absent. You didn't even hear me when we got back."
"Wait, you said something when we got back?"
"That's not the point. The point is, I have seen it happen multiple times. You seem to drift off everywhere and when someone does or speaks without warning, you seem to be paranoid. So I want to ask you, is there something you are not telling me?"
"It's fine. Don't think too much about it. I'm just tired." Jisung brushed past him to enter the bathroom to change. Minho grabbed him by his arm and turned to look at him. "Is there really nothing for me to worry about?" Jisung watched the older's gaze soften and for a moment he felt bad, guilty even. Guilty for not telling him the truth. Jisung shook him off. "Really, there is nothing wrong, Minho."
The letters. They follow him everywhere. The more he received, the more his cautions grew.
"Stop frowning," Jisung commanded and massaged the other's temples, pecking Minho's lips after. Minho let out a long sigh but listened nonetheless. "Let's go, Love," he hummed and held open the door for him like the gentleman he was. Followed by Jisung intertwining their hands to relieve Minho's stress.
