Jisung laid down, his eyes still wide open. He looked over at his side. The ciphers illuminated in the darkness of his room. 2:13 AM. He let out a long sigh. He had been wide awake the entire night. Listening to his mother's silent weeping tore his heart, and he could feel his chest tightening as if someone pierced through it. Carefully opening his door, he set a foot outside, sneaking down the stairs, being as silent as possible to not wake his brother. And the scene he met with felt like getting hit.
His mother laid curled up in a ball in the center of the room. Dark circles surrounded her eyes while dried tear tracks stuck to her face. "Mom.." Jisung ran towards her, engulfing her in a hug. He caressed the top of her head as she let the rest of her tears fall down. The last thing Jisung remembered after that was waking up next to his mother on the couch. The light of the morning found its way through the curtains, granting them a new day. Jisung stretched his arms and washed himself up before leaving for school. He dragged the door close, not wanting to wake up his mother, leaving behind the breakfast he made for her.
Jisung breathed in the fresh and cold morning air. Today, he would just walk to school instead of taking the bus. By the time Jisung has arrived, the janitor stood pulled open the gates, greeting him with a nod. He must've gotten here really early this time.
If only he had known that by the end of this day, his life would've changed completely.
His footsteps echoed through the hall. Jisung sunk into the bench next to the lockers, closing his eyes as he appreciated this morning's silence he wasn't used to. He got out his phone and plugged in his earphones before scrolling through his playlist, clicking a random song. Creating his own oasis, he bopped his head to the beat from time to time until someone cleared his voice.
Jisung looked up, pressing his thumb on the screen, and pausing the song as his principal greeted him. He got out his earphones, storing them in his bag, and took time to properly greet him. "Good morning Mr. Park."
"Also a good morning to you Jisung" Mr. Park smiled with a nod of his head and proceeded to think out loud. "Say, Jisung, as one of the top students, could you help with something?" Jisung stood up. "What is it you need my help with, sir?" Jisung asked, genuinely curious. "Please, come to my office," the principal gestured his hand towards the door at the end of the hall.
"Would you like some coffee or tea, Jisung?" Mr. Park asked while grabbing himself some coffee from the dispenser on top of a counter. "No, thank you, sir. I'm fine," Jisung politely declined. "Well, as you may probably have heard, there are three new students," Mr. Park began as he sat down, the wheels of his chair rolling over the wooden floor. "And I know that showing around three of them at the same time will probably be difficult. So, I was hoping you could show around at least one of them." Jisung took the moment's silence to contemplate it, staring at nothing in particular. He nodded his head. "Of course, I can, sir."
"That's excellent!" he exclaimed, clasping his hands together.
"But, may I know who I will be showing around today?" Jisung asked, interrupting for a second while he stood up from his seat. Suddenly, the door opened with a cracking sound, Jisung acknowledging the footsteps behind him coming to a stop. "You asked me to come here, sir?"
Jisung's heart clenched in his chest.
"Ah, yes. Lee Minho."
Please, just let this be a dream. Is it time to wake up? Where is that alarm when you need it? Jisung turned around. Well, this is it. "I'll be showing him around?!" Jisung yelled, a little bit too loud. He judged that from the reactions of the other people present. The principal cleared his throat. "Is there any problem with that Mr. Han?"
The male internally scolded himself for even opening his mouth. Jisung shot his gaze to the ground, feeling the insides of his face start to burn. "No, everything's fine." He let out a cough, recollecting himself. "Well then, Mr. Lee," the principal averted to the man standing beside him. "This is Han Jisung, and he will be your guide for today. I entrust you to him." The other looked Jisung into his eyes with the same cold glare he gave everyone.
The judging gaze of the older made Jisung fidget with his clothes again. He felt like suffocating. And Minho wasn't making it any better.
The weight of the door had it fall back into its lock while Minho suddenly pressed Jisung back. Jisung's breath skipped when his back hit the wall. It was not out of fear this time. The fact that their bodies were almost touching each other and that Jisung could feel the heat of the other against him, had him rather sent off balance. Now he was just praying he didn't look as red as he imagined himself.
"Listen," Minho started, lowering his voice. "I don't want this either. So, please, do me a favor and don't talk to me unless it's necessary." He released the arm that pressed Jisung against the wall, moving away from him with no glance. Like nothing happened. Just that same glower on his face. Jisung released a breath he had been holding. His mind felt blank, hollow even, and it seemed as if his brain nor body knew how to react.
Minho crossed his arms and tapped his feet on the floor impatiently. "I am waiting." Jisung shook his head, back to reality, and ignored the other's attitude toward him, taking his place to walk in front of him.
He led the tour as the principal had instructed, walking through all the hallways of the building, pointing out all the information about everything and everywhere they came across.
Minho really didn't see the point in starting a conversation with a stranger that had already gotten on his nerves. Most people describe him as cold-hearted, and well, who knows, maybe that's just who he is. Jisung had stolen secret glances towards Minho and his expression didn't seem to change, it was the same cold, unbothered expression.
"Jisung?"
Jisung jumped a little and looked around from where the voice came from. "Seungmin?" he blurted, confused as to why his friend was here already. "You had to give a tour too?" Seungmin asked when approaching Jisung. Behind him, the two other students from yesterday followed in his track. Jisung looked at Seungmin with a type of expression that only Seungmin could read.
"Ah, these are Chan and Hyunjin" he smiled and gestured towards the boys. "Ah, I see," Jisung nodded at the response. "Well, I think you already know who this is." Jisung pointed to Minho behind him. The other looked at Minho and nodded. "Let's finish this together!" Seungmin suggested. "Good idea," Jisung inched closer to his best friend, walking further by his side, not really paying attention to the whole 'tour' thing anymore as they were more into teasing each other like how best friends do.
Minho rolled his eyes. "Not to interrupt your 'lovely' conversation, but aren't you both supposed to show us around?" His voice underlined with annoyance that really sparked something in Jisung as he snapped his head to him, sighing. "Can you stop sounding like the world has wronged you? Who do you even think you are?" Jisung snarled back at him.
Chan eyed the both of them. He knew there was this tension between them, and it was not good. Chan grabbed Minho's wrist when he clenched his fist, standing closer to Minho. "Hey, it's not worth it, calm down."
"Whatever" Minho scoffed again before walking off, leaving the rest behind him. Chan scratched the back of his head. "I apologize for my friend's behavior. He really doesn't mean to be this rude."
"It's okay," Seungmin said, making Chan feel just a less guilty. "We can just continue what we were actually assigned to do." The other bowed to him, giving him a short 'thank you'.
