We stride through the autumn forest for hours. Every so often, a messenger hawk would come soaring by, but for the most time, it's quiet. Well, besides the chorus of birdsong, and a light breeze sweeping through the forest. Our boots crunch against the moist leaves and soil beneath our boots. It's a harmonious sound.

As the day wares on, the air gets cooler and the light slowly fades from the sky. Luckily, we find a great camping spot.

"I'll go get some firewood," offers Rose with a cheerful smile. I stare a little as she goes, but quickly look away after I notice what I'm doing.

Rose comes back in about a half an hour, arms full of wood. She carefully sets the wood in a neat pile and sets it on fire.

"This is fun. I've never really camped before," she murmurs.

I stare into the fire for a moment, thinking. Suddenly, my eyes light up. I begin to rummage in my pack, and Rose peers over my shoulder curiously. I pull out a bag of marshmallows, and she raises an eyebrow.

"You brought marshmallows? On our expedition to save the world?" She says with a quiet laugh.

"Can't have a campfire without marshmallows. Have you ever had them?" I reply. She shakes her head.

I bring out two twigs and stick a marshmallow on each. I begin to roast mine. Rose imitates, almost eager to learn the ways of roasting a marshmallow.

We laugh and talk, barely being careful of our volume. Rose's twig completely sets fire, but luckily she was holding it with her bionic hand. I wave my hand, extiguishing the flame, leaving the grass below withered and dead, but even Rose doesen't notice. In fact, we're having so much fun, we don't notice anything. We don't notice the stealthy scamper of hooves on the ground. Not the crackly of twigs breaking under an unknown source's feet. So we're oblivious when a strike if fire sizzles towards my head.

Rose's eyes lights up. She punchs the ground and a barrier jumps up, saving my guts. Feet fall into a formation around us, and we hear nothing but the soft crackle of our single light source. And then he attacks.
