The next morning, I'm dressed into fresh, clothes that aren't ripped to shreds from a whip. Guards escort me to the meeting room, which has a large table made from a glass screen. A map of the Earth Kingdom flickers on. I'm forced to sit down.

When the meeting starts, I listen without resistance. What's the point? I might as well accept it. The meeting lasts two hours, and all I can think about is how I'm about to destroy the people and village I grew up with.

"How are you going to force me to kill my friends? I'm sorry, but you can torture me all you want, I still don't have the stomach for that," I interrupt flatly. It brings a devilish grin onto my father's thin lips.

"You don't know how to control the Avatar State, correct?" He inquires.

"I don't know. I've never been in it."

"The serum allows me to trigger it whenever I want. It'll direct all your pain, anger, and grief towards what is in front of you."

I nod, not surprised at all. But a part of me isn't scared because I don't believe it. I don't believe in the spiritual Avatar State or talking to my past lives. Those are all just rumors. Being the Avatar isn't something special. All I can do is bend all elements. But everyone still expects me to save the world.

"We're bringing the boy as well. I thought it'd be interesting to see if he relents in helping in the raid by black mail," he adds.

Guilt creeps up in my throat. Nathan would never do such a thing. You could pull out all his teeth and fingernails, and he wouldn't do it. And here I am, after being whipped 5 times. Oh, and watching Nathan getting tortured. That was enough for me.
