The words don't fully register for a moment, and Nathan is beginning to become desperate. But I don't care. The words that slip out of his mouth are ones I haven't heard since I was nine years old.

"I- I love you!" He calls.

The wind begins to lessen, slowly releasing me. Shadows reluctantly crawl back into their normal state. My eyes fade, leaving my left blind once more. And then there's Nathan. He wraps me in his arms, crying.

I look around us in confusion. I don't remember doing this. I would never do something like this. But I did.

"Did I cause this?" I murmur, staring at the handful of ash I just scooped up in my palms.

"It wasn't you, Rose. You couldn't control it. It wasn't the real you," he replies gently.

My hands begin to tremble. My eyes become wide with shock and grief. I just murdered my friends, bosses, teachers, and little children. And now they're gone forever. Because of me.

"We're getting out of here, Rose," Nathan says, attempting to pull me up. I scoot away frantically, making him bling a few times, baffled.

"Don't touch me!" I sob, glaring at him reproachfully.

"I see Water Tribe boats in the distance. I promise you'll be safe there."

"It's not that! I- I... I don't want to hurt you."

Instead of the softness that I was expecting for his eyes to show, they become stone cold and hard, making me flinch.

"We don't have time for this! I'm not leaving you here, and I will force you if I have to. I'm going to take care of you. I always have," he growls.

I know he's referring to a past memory, and I think I know which one. If it's real, that is. I cross my arms angrily.

"I never asked for your help!" I blurt out.

All the Fire Nation that was here has been knocked out from bloodbending, including the FireLord. The Water Tribe boats will be here in moments.

"You have no other choice, Rose. Would you rather stay in the Fire Nation, or go to the Water Tribe and be safe?" Nathan asks urgently. I'd much rather stay in the Water Tribe, honestly. F

"Can't we just be like what it used to be? Traveling?" I offer. All I want is to feel that happiness that I vaguely remember before all this happened.

"We were traveling to the Water Tribe."

"Oh."
