I laugh and beam brightly. It's very warm for an Autumn day, and it feels like nothing could go wrong. As Nathan practically stuffs his face, I swing my pack onto my shoulder with its strap and climb a tree.
"What the heck are you doing?" Calls Nathan with a teasing smirk.
"None of your business. And you'll never find out. You can't climb as high as me!" I shout back, laughing.
"I saw your sketch book in your bag a few days ago. By the way, nice drawing of me. I liked it."
My eyes widen and my cheeks seem to radiate waves of heat. He saw those? WHAT THE HECK WAS HE DOING IN MY BAG?!
"Yeah, it's called drawing your FRIEND! I was bored, okay?! Quit being so nosy," I snap.
He grins. "Oh? But there's several. I think there's one when I was about to kiss you. Seems highly coincidental you'd choose that moment."
"NATHAN SHUT UP BEFORE I... Before I... Before... Just shut up," I splutter. Nathan laughs some more, and I can see him blushing. It makes me smirk. He's trying to get on my nerves. He's flirting.
I stuff my sketch book into my bag and lean against the trunk, ignoring Nathan. He seems troubled by this.
"Rose? You're not really mad, are you? I was just kidding! I'm sorry!" He calls.
"Apology accepted," I reply cooly, hooking my legs onto a branch and hanging upside down. I offer a goofy smile.
"Stop it. If you fall you're dead," Nathan snaps.
"I won't fall. I can do whatever I want," I laugh.
"I mean it. Please get down from there."
"Aww, you scared of heights? Does this scare you?"
I begin to sit upright and stand on the somewhat thin branch. It wobbles a little, but I ignore it. I have a point to prove. I stand on one leg and outstretch my arms as if they are wings.
"You look like you're going to have a panic attack. I Calm down!" I laugh. It quickly stops when I lose my balance. I stagger clumsily and let out a shriek as I tumble through the branches. So much for that "point" to prove.
"ROSE YOU IDIOT!" I hear Nathan scream as he dives towards the area is supposedly land.
