My heart thumps inside my chest rapidly. Nathan and I are squished together in the little dome of earth I made to protect us.
"Who are they?" I whisper.
"Definitely not Fire Nation soldiers. I have no idea," replies Nathan.
I remain quiet for a moment, listening to the strange men. They're talking and laughing fruity, but menacing laughs.
"What do we do with the boy? All we need is the girl," I hear one say.
"Kill him?" Another offers. I tense up.
"No. He looks strong enough to be of some use. Bet the Firelord wouldn't mind having another servant."
"Nathan, you think we can take them?" I ask.
"We can try. Looks like we have no choice," he replies.
I bend us out of the dome and immediately get into a fighting stance. There's five men in all, and they're huge. They have axes and all sorts of terrible looking weapons at their sides.
My mind runs through millions of fighting defenses I'Ve learned, trying to pick the best one. But I wait for them to make the first move.
"We don't want any trouble. Just come with us, girl," growls one of the men. He attempts to tackle me, but I Airbend myself over his head.
I slowly land behind him, smirking. I earth bend his legs and arms into the ground. Nathan is doing pretty good as well, and has two of them trapped in ice. Wait, where'd he get the water?
I don't have time to figure it out, and Nathan and I face the remaining two back to back. I wince as my metallic foot wobbles, but keep fighting. Eventually, they're all knocked out.
"Well that was annoying," I mutter.
"Yeah. Let's get a new camping spot before they wake up," decides Nathan.
I make a little flame in my palm so we can see through the darkness of the forest. It takes a while, but we finally find another spot.
"No fire. Let's just go to sleep," I say tiredly, pulling out my sleeping bag. I'm exhausted, and the bounty hunters put a damper in my mood. I take my braid out before I drift off. My body is turned away from Nathan, but I still feel his deep blue eyes burning into my back.
