I watch her eyes close, then gently brush her golden bangs to the side of her face. I look at the doctor. "Is there any way I can help?" I ask.

"You a healer?" the doctor asks without looking up.

I open my mouth to say yes, but my voice hesitates when I remember my healing becoming red instead of light blue. How am I going to explain that without spilling my little bloodbending incidents? "No," I reply slowly.

"Well then." The doctor talks very fast. "Get some rest, kid. I don't have to be a doctor to tell that you need it."

I nod, dragging myself to a spare room. It's a small clinic, and I need the rest. I fall back onto the pillows and seafoam green hospital bed sheets, and stare at the white ceiling above.

Nathan Li, you just bloodbended 3 times today. And it's not even the full moon. You are so blind...

See, I was never fully trained in bloodbending. I never bloodbent before in my life. But my mom... She was training me. And I didn't even know it. Teaching me to suck the life put of plants, how to pull water out of moist air (though I never really picked it up) but really, all this time she was training me to become a bloodbender. How does Rose see me differently? What if she hates me and drops her trust... Bloodbending has been illegal for centuries. What will the authorities do to me when they catch me? Who will protect Rose?
