What the hell did he just do? It didn't feel too good at first (not one bit), but afterwards it did ease the pain. After a few moments of shock and slight panic, I become dizzy and fall into some kind of sleep. I don't know where we're going, nor care at the moment.
Before I'm completely unconscious, I feel Nathan's lips press against my head. I think he thinks I'm knocked out, oblivious to everything. But I'll never forget that feeling. If I could move, I would probably smile.
When I wake back up, Nathan is lifting me off Luna and walking, almost running somewhere. I manage to get a few words out.
"Wh- where we going?" I croak.
"To the doctor. You'll be okay. They'll probably go through a few healing sessions and get you some pain medication," Nathan replies, obviously trying to hide the deep concern in his voice.
The immediate image in my mind is needles. Giant needles filled with a foreign fluid, about to plunge into my neck. An image of my dad and a man in a lab coat cornering me with one of these needles fill my mind. I grab Nathan's shoulder and try to push myself up.
"Not here. No, I'll be okay," I slur. I quickly let go, the muscles in my marred hand twitching uncontrollably. It starts to bleed a little again.
"Rose, we don't have time for your little games. You'll die if you don't see a doctor," Nathan growls.
Little games? What's that supposed to mean?
"You don't understand. Doctors are bad. Th- they..." I trail off, finding it difficult to speak. He brushes some loose hair out of my face gently.
"Trust me. You're not exactly in your most logical state, I'll take care of you. I promise."
Sure, that's what my mom said too. And she ditched me, leaving me with her lunatic husband.
"Okay," I murmur. I have a dazed expression on my face as we walk into the small building. My eyes are half closed.
A woman at the front desk stares at us in surprise. I hear Nathan explaining urgently, but I can't make out the garbled words. The room is blurry and seems to be tilting sideways, spinning. I even see a painting on the wall move.
Ugh. I really hope this is because of blood loss. If not, I've completely lost it.
Nathan practically has to hold me down as they shoot a needle into my neck. Which wouldn't be that hard, considering my physical state.
"What'd they do?! I feel weird..." I groan.
Nathan doesn't seem to answer my question, but just coos soothing words that can't quite make out. I'd be annoyed, since he's acting like I'm some irrational, wounded animal. But I end up falling asleep once more.
Nathan's voice echoes in my head. Everything will be fine.
