Rose glares at me with vicious eyes, eyes ready to kill. Waves of purple dashed in and out, but her left side stayed unfocused and still. I reach out and slowly stroke her burned face.

Rose winces.

A lob of whatever gets stuck in my throat. I begin to weep. "I thought you were dead..."

Rose still glares at me with marbled eyes. And then her mouth opens, and out of it came noise. First soft, but gradually crescendo until her voice shrilled with high-pitched mechanical beeps, echoing unforgivably into the twilight valley below.

Rose's mom seizes up suddenly in a silent cry of disbelief. "I'm so stupid. Of course they have trackers on her..." She whispers. She turns to me. "Please," she begs. "Go back. Let Rose sink again. The firelord will most likely give her a second chance... But only if he sees Rose attack you..."

I nod, knowing what she means.

The mother turns to her daughter and cups her cheeks. She looks gently into Rose's eyes, all while Rose beeps strongly on.

"Do you get that, sweetie?" she asks kindly. "Attack Nathan once your father sees you. He'll give you a second chance and won't kill you tomorrow. Nathan won't mind, don't kill him but injure him. Do you get that sweetie?"

I find my head nodding in sync with Rose's. The lump in my throat recedes.

"I'll be back, hun," Rose's mother says mournfully, then jumps out the window with her parachute.

Rose's scared amber eye locks into mine. She holds her hand in mine and our fingers lace together. We hear a bang in the distance. Unable to contain myself anymore, I plant a kiss right on Rose's lips. She savours the moment, and then before we could do anything about it, a fire nation war ship materializes in front of us, and our heads snap back.
