"Marcus."
"Kilala mo siya, girl?" tanong ni Noemi.
Hindi ko nakita kung ano ang naging expression sa mukha ng kaibigan ko dahil nanatili ang tingin ko kay Marcus.
"She's the owner of the phone, Marcus," ani signora at tinuro ako. Tuluyan na silang nakababa mula sa hagdan. "She's Jane. She's one of our house cleaners."
Marcus looked at me seriously but disbelief was still etched on his eyes. Who would have thought that we would be seeing here anyway? His face was stoic and his lips were in thin line. The long minute of silence felt like forever. I shifted my weight because the rigidity was quite palpable and it’s actually engulfing the whole me.
"I know her," Marcus muttered after a long minute of silence but still enough for us to hear it.
The girl beside me giggled and chanted inaudible words. 'Destiny' lang ang naging malinaw sa pandinig ko sa mga sinabi niya.
"Oh!" Signora seemed surprised. "How did you know each other?" Curiosity was written all over her face.
Marcus looked at me as if he's boring a hole into my being. He didn't answer his mom's question but he seemed like he has a lot to say but doesn't know where to start. I cleared my throat before I began to speak.
"Uh... Y-yung phone ko... p-po?"
Shit! Where did that ‘po’ come from? Kailan ko pa ginamitan ng po si Marcus?
I didn't really know what to say though. The only thing I wanted at the very moment is to get my phone from him and get the hell out of here in an instant.
"Not so fast, my lady."
What the heck? My lady? Seriously, Marcus?
A smirk appeared on his lips probably because he saw my expression upon hearing those words. My heart was beating eccentrically because of nervousness but my friend seemed to enjoy what she's seeing. She looked like she's watching a romantic comedy movie because of the trivial grin plastered on her face. I almost give he popcorn because she looked so freaking entertained!
Signora cleared her throat. Maybe, she felt the tension that was building up inside the living room. "Do you need some time? To talk?" she said, a little hesitant.
"No, signora!"
"Yes, momma."
Marcus and I uttered at the same time.
I glared at him. "We don't have anything to talk about."
He smiled. "We have a lot to talk about, Jane. Four years. That needs a lot of time for us to catch up."
I am starting to get irritated. I was never this irritated to Marcus before but the way he looks at me now, he seemed like he's enjoying that he sees me this agitated!
