“Let’s get married then we’re even.” He said it as if it was just nothing! What the hell?
“Seriously, Marcus? What do you think of marriage?
Heck! Ano ba namang underlying principle iyon? Sana lang gets niya.
“Of course I know its real meaning,” he replied seriously.
I shook my head and I laughed without humor. “No, you don’t. Nababaliw ka na.”
He smirked. “You know that I am… when it comes to you.”
I looked back at Marcus.
“I will pay you in any way that I can-”
He cut me off. “Then marry me.”
I shook my head. “Except that.”
He frowned and I saw a glint of disappointment and despondency in his eyes.
“Why?”
“Marcus, you… y-you’re my friend! For goodness sake!”
“Are we?” he said sarcastically. “Are we still friends, Jane.”
“O-of course,” I replied though my voice squeaked.
“Really? Or you just can’t really take the idea of getting married to me.”
“Marrying you is not an enough reason for me to pay my debt.”
“I wonder… if Kent’s in my shoes at this very moment. Would you immediately say yes if he offered the same,” he said, ignoring what I just told him.
I shook my head. I didn’t know where this conversation was heading but I got enough. Ang dami-daming nangyari sa araw na ito. The only thing I want to do now is to get home, lay on my bed and sleep. I feel too exhausted that I think I would pass out anytime.
