My eyes widened a fragment and my jaw dropped after I heard him say something I didn’t expect. Parang nanuyo ang lalamunan ko at wala akong nasabi sa kanya.
“Marry me, Jane,” ulit niya.
“Ba-bakit?”
Medyo kumunot ang noo niya. Marahil ay hindi iyon ang salitang inasahan niyang lumabas sa bibig ko.
“What do you mean ‘bakit’?” His voice was laced with so much worry.
“H-hindi pa naman tayo. T-tas kasal na agad?”
“What?” he scoffed. “Jane, kung hindi ka umalis noon, we should already have celebrated our 4th year wedding anniversary!”
Napamaang ako sa logic niya. “Pinagloloko mo ba ‘ko?”
“What? Why would I do that?”
“Pakakasalan mo ‘ko e hindi naman tayo. Ni hindi ko maalalang niligawan mo ‘ko at sinagot kita.”
“Kailangan pa ba ‘yan?” kunot-noong tanong niya. Tumunog na ang oven ngunit hinayaan na lang muna namin ang nakasalang doon. Mas importante itong pinag-uusupan namin ngayon kaysa sa nirereheat naming ulam.
“Oo naman! The step before getting married is boyfriend and girlfriend,” I replied with conviction.
He chuckled. “You were my girlfriend since that night you stole my first kiss.”
“Ha? Kailan naman ‘yan? Parang wala ako maalalang ako ang unang humalik-”
“You’re 18th birthday. In the guest room. You were too wasted that night. After you cleaned yourself in the bathroom, I helped you to be laid down on the bed. Then you suddenly wrapped your arms around my neck. You told me that you love me then you pulled me down for a kiss. The kiss we shared that night was so sweet, baby. I constantly dreamt of it ever since.” He smiled then he looked at my lips. “From that moment on, I marked myself to you as you marked yourself to me. Girlfriend na kita simula noong madaling araw na iyon, Jane.”
Laglag panga ko siyang tinitigan. What the… fuck? Naalala niya pa ‘yon? Akala ko ako lang ang hindi nakalimot sa pangyayaring ‘yon? Shit! Hiyang-hiya ako nun! Na noong naalala ko iyong buong pangyayari ay tinakasan ko siya dahil sa sobrang kahihiyan!
His confession held me speechless. Literal na nganga ako sa harap niya pagkatapos niyang ikwento sa akin in his perspective iyong ginawa ko nang unang beses akong malasing noong debut ko. Shit!

Tumango ako. He frowned. “Really? Naalala mo ‘yon?” tanong niya na parang hindi makapaniwala. Tumango akong muli. “Then why didn’t you say anything?”
“N-nahiya ako sa ginawa ko nun sa’yo.”
