“Wow! What’s with the yellow dress?” ate Jem asked. She looked at me with much adoration. She was the one who opened the door for me.

 

I kissed ate Jem on the cheek. “Trip lang, ate.” I grinned. I was quite surprise to see her here. Andito rin kaya si Ayla?

“You look modestly beautiful.” She smiled. “Come in! The girls are in the living room.”

Naabutan naming nakasalampak sa carpeted floor ang dalawa at kumakain ng pizza habang naka-on ang malaking flat screen TV. Movie marathon ata ang trip ng mga ‘to ngayon.

“Girl! How’s the party last night?” Ria asked. I froze a little. Shit! I didn’t see that coming!

She stood up then kissed me on my cheek. Ayla did the same. Everybody was waiting for my answer. Their attention was all on me.

“Uh… o-okay naman,” sabi ko. I tried my hardest to sound normal. The two girls shrugged while ate Jem was looking at me attentively.

“My parents wanted me to come with them last night but duh? I was not interested even the slightest,” Ayla said.

“Same girl, same!” Ria agreed.

“No offense, Jane, ha? It’s not that I don’t like Kent. I just don’t really like Einah for Kent. He’s too good for her. And Einah’s a bitch, you know?! It creeps the hell out of me every time she looks at me. Her eyes kasi they’re… too big! How do you call that animal with big fucking eyes na nga?” Ayla said then looked at Ria for the answer to her question.

“A fucking tarsier, girl!” Ria exclaimed then their laughter filled the whole room.

Napakamapanglait talaga ang mga ‘to pero natawa rin ako. Tarsier din tawag ko sa kanya e. Mapanglait din ako. Akala mo naman kung ang ganda ko.

“How about you, Jane?” ate Jem suddenly asked. We’re now sitting on the floor, too, with the two other girls.

“What do you mean, ate?” I asked as well.

“Uhm… about Kent? Being engaged?”

Shocks! Bakit niya tinatanong! Okay, Jane! You should keep your cool! I couldn’t afford na may iba pang makaalam o makahalata man lang sa feelings ko kay Kent.

“O-okay naman, ate. M-masaya ako para sa b-best friend ko.” Shit! Hindi ko napigilan ang panginginig ng boses ko!

She nodded then suddenly, Ayla butted in.

“You know what, Jane, I pity Kent,” she said with a sad tone. She was speaking while munching her pizza. Nilunok muna niya ‘yong nginuya niya bago nagsalitang muli.

“Kasi he will be fucking tied to that tarsier bitch soon!” she roared. Tawa lang ng tawa si Ria habang si ate Jem ay napapailing. Ako nama’y nakangiti lang dahil sa reaksyon ng kaibigan ko. Masyado siyang affected. “Maswerte sana siya kung sa’yo na lang siya na-engage,” she continued. My smile slowly faded. “Diba, girls?” She was looking at Ria then to ate Jem, as if asking them to agree with her.
