“Shit,” Brielle whispered under her breath.

“Is that your mom and dad?” Marieka asked Brielle with a confused look.

“Yeah. Blake asked me to invite them. I didn’t really think they would show up,” Brielle sighed drying her hands off with a dish towel.

She walked out of the kitchen and into the living room where Blake,Tommy, Taylor, and her parents were. Her father actually looked like he was having a good time, but it was hard to miss the sour look on her mother’s face. She was sitting on the couch next to her husband rolling her eyes at the conversation the men were having.

“Hi daddy,” Brielle smiled walking over to her father.

“Hey sweetheart,” Brent said standing up and wrapping her up in a hug. “You’re starting to show,” He smiled as they pulled apart.

“Little bit,” Brielle laughed.

She looked around her father and smiled nervously at her mom. She could only imagine what comment her mom was going to make about her pregnancy.

“Hey mom,”Brielle said as her father stepped out of the way.

“Hi,” Grace said with a scowl.

“Happy Thanksgiving, I’m glad you’re here,” Brielle offered as sincerely as she could.

“Uh huh,” Grace spat.

Gail and Marieka stood just outside the kitchen far enough away to be a part of the group, but still close enough to hear the exchange.

“Poor Brielle. This is the time she needs her mother the most,” Marieka sighed.

“I know,” Gail said frowning.

“Grace you could be a little more conversational,” Brent said glaring at his wife.

“What’s there to say? She’s dating a man I don’t particularly care for. He’s never going to be good enough and then she was dumb enough to get knocked up by him too,” Grace said glaring at Blake.

Brielle wasn’t sure who the first person was to start talking, but it seemed everyone did at once. Blake to defend Brielle and everyone else in the room to defend Blake.

Brielle, feeling dizzy all of a sudden, slowly backed out of the living room and up the stairs to her bedroom. Gail followed behind a few minutes later having seen the pale look on her face.

Brent had decided to take Grace home and after apologizing profusely to Blake asked if he would be able to come back without his wife. Blake, of course, told him he would always be welcome.

“Brielle,” Gail said knocking quietly on the bedroom door.
