Brielle let out a breath as she laid back in the bed. She was exhausted. She had been at it for three hours straight and the babies just weren't coming.
"Ok Brielle lets take a break for a few minutes and then we can try again," Dr Langford said standing up from the end of the bed. "They're right there. You're doing great,"
"Thanks," Brielle said trying to catch her breath.
Blake sat down in the chair next to her bed and pulled it up so he was close to her. He grabbed her hand and kissed the back of it as he smiled down at her.
"Have I told you how pretty you look today?" Blake said leaning down so their faces were inches apart.
"Please. I'm sweating and I'm the size of Shamu. Pretty is definitely not one of the things I am," Brielle snorted.
"You look absolutely beautiful to me baby. You're definitely a lot stronger than I am to go through this. I'm so proud of you. I'm going to miss your big baby belly," Blake said laying his hand on her stomach in a small place where there wasn't a monitor.
"Well enjoy it now because we aren't doing this again for a long time. If ever," Brielle sighed.
"I have a feeling you will change your mind," Blake laughed pressing a kiss to her forehead.
"Are we ready?" Dr Langford asked finally making her presence known once again.
"Yeah," Brielle nodded as Blake stood up letting go of her hand to once again grab her leg.
Twenty minutes later the first cries were finally heard as Brielle delivered Braylee.
"Remember how we talked about the NICU?" The labor nurse asked looking down at Brielle who nodded. "They are here to assess the babies and will let you know what will happen after the delivery room,"
The NICU nurse caught Blake's attention and gestured him over to the warmer where she was looking at a very unhappy Braylee.
"She looks great dad. We will take her in a few minutes to the NICU and let her what we call transition and she should be able to come back to you and mom after that," The NICU nurse explained.
"Can she see her before you take her?" Blake asked not taking his eyes off his beautiful little girl.
"Of course. Let me wrap her up and then you can carry her to mom," The nurse smiled as she wrapped little Braylee in two clean blankets and slipped a small hat on her head before handing her to Blake.
"Congratulations,"
"Thanks," Blake said with a smile feeling the tears well up in his eyes. He had no idea how he was going to make it through the birth of the other baby without completely falling apart.
"Brielle I'm going to give you some time with little Braylee before we start pushing again okay," Dr Langford smiled seeing Blake make his way over with the baby.
"Okay," Brielle nodded reaching up to take Braylee from Blake.
"She looks just like her momma," Blake sniffled as he laid the little girl in her arms.
"She's perfect," Brielle said not being able to hold back the tears.
"She is," Blake nodded running his large finger down Braylee's small cheek. "She's so tiny I feel like I'm going to break her,"
"You won't," Brielle laughed though her tears.
As quickly as the happy moment came it faded. Brielle's monitors started to go off signaling the second baby was in distress. Blake got up taking Braylee back to the nurse before rushing back to Brielle's side.
