Fall of 2009

"Are you staying or are you going?" Brielle asked throwing the last of the equipment she needed for this weekends game in her bag and zipping it up.

"I can't go to Texas this weekend," Blake sighed not looking up from whatever he was reading on his phone.

"Not the game dork I meant are you going to the NBA early or are you going to finish your degree?" Brielle laughed shaking her head as she turned to load a few more things on the rack before it was wheeled off to the equipment truck.

"I don't know Brie what do I do?" Blake asked looking up at her with an almost panicked look on his face.

"Have you talked to your family about it?"

"Maybe that's what I will do tonight," Blake nodded jumping up from his seat.

"Hey BG. Heard the news man congrats. Hopefully the NFL comes through for me too since I'm coming off an injury," Sam Bradford smiled walking over to the two and high fiving/hand shaking with Blake.

"Yeah thanks man, you'll get yours too," Blake nodded smiling. "Good luck with Texas this weekend man. Take care of Brie," Blake smiled nodding in her direction.

"Ha it's my job to take care of him. Bus Bradford let's go," Brielle smiled pointing to the bus.

Sam laughed shaking his head but nonetheless climbed onboard and took his seat.

"I gotta go too. Go see mom and dad and talk about it with them, call Taylor too. Don't get so stressed out about it," Brielle smiled hugging her friend.

"You're right. I'll text you later. Have fun this weekend, kick some Longhorn ass!" Blake laughed.

"Oh yeah. Boomer,"

"Sooner," Blake smiled watching her walk up the steps of the bus that was taking the OU football team to Dallas for their game against the Texas Longhorns. Blake usually made it a point to attend the Red River Rivalry weekend but this weekend was different.

This weekend he was getting an opportunity of a lifetime. He was meeting with some representatives from the NBA to talk about going early.

This was the weeknd that could completely change his life and he just watched his best friend climb on a bus and drive away from him.

Sighing and shaking his head he turned and walked back to his car. He needed to talk to someone. He jumped on the highway and headed down the familiar road to his parents house. They would know what to do.

***************************

Brielle leaned her head back against the headrest and closed her eyes. Sure she was excited for her friend but at the same time she was worried he woukd actually go. She had one more year left before she graduated from OU with her sports medicine degree.

She and Blake had become close friends after she was assigned to follow the basketball team for a few months. They were friends and that was all. Neither one had made any attempt to cross the line into something more and if you asked Brielle all she wanted from him was friendship.

She was too focused on her academic goals and he was all about basketball. She rarely ever saw him without a basketball in his hand. She would joke around with him and ask him if it was permanently attached.

She knew all of his family very well and was extremely close with Marieka, Taylor's girlfriend.  They would all tease Blake and Brielle constantly about why they had never dated. Honestly they were both too busy and just content with their friendship.

Brielle was almost asleep when she felt her phone vibrate in her lap. She smiled opening a text from Blake.

Taylor says go, dad says go, mom thinks I need to stay. I guess I'm going...

Brielle sighed typing her response.

Just don't go anywhere without saying goodbye first. Hopefully you end up with the Thunder!!!!

I wouldn't go without seeing you Brie. OKC would be nice. Take a nap you'll be in Dallas soon.

Brielle threw her phone in her bag and closed her eyes again. How was she going to deal with saying goodbye to her best friend?
