Brielle swore she would rather have open heart surgery than to deal with the stress that came from watching the Clippers and the Thunder battle it out in the playoffs. After the conversation with Blake she did her normal routine like nothing had happened.
She hadn’t told anyone about her now officially dating Blake. It was no one else’s business. Only a couple of the Thunder players even knew she and Blake were friends in college. That all changed when Blake’s name was called during player introductions.
He ran out like he usually did looking for Brielle. As soon as he came into eye contact with her he put a hand over his heart and winked at her. Brielle tried her best not to react, but she couldn’t help but smile.
Of course this set off a chain reaction of chatter with the Thunder players. Everyone started wondering if he was taunting them on purpose and deciding how they were going to get back at him on the court. Amidst all the chatter, Kevin Durant looked over at Brielle and smirked. He knew what was going on.
After that Brielle knew he would calm the rest of the team down and she wouldn’t have to worry about anything happening to Blake on the court. Sure Ibaka would play him hard, but that wasn’t anything new.
The momentum in the game for the most part went back and forth multiple times. In the end it was the Thunder who were successful and took a 2-1 lead. They had one more game the next night in LA and then it was back to OKC. Brielle wondered how all of that was going to work out with her and Blake.
Truth be told that was just another reason on the list why she thought them being together was a bad idea. Especially starting a relationship during the series. Brielle had watched him walk off the court with his head down and hoped somehow before they saw each other again she could find the words to say to get him through this. The series wasn’t over yet as much as Brielle wished it was.
She finished up everything she had to get done to wrap up that night and set herself up for tomorrow. She didn’t have to be there early for the next game so at least that was good news. She waited around as the happy Thunder team loaded onto the bus that would take them back to their hotel before getting into her rental car and heading to her hotel.
She had checked her phone multiple times and hadn’t seen anything from Blake. Sighing to parked the rental and walked quicker than normal into the hotel. She saw DJ and Chris and a couple other Clipper players sitting at a table talking. That was a good sign that Blake wasn’t with them she hoped.
Brielle smiled and waived a small waive as she passed by. Chris smiled and nodded at her while the other guys just looked up at her. She hoped playing the Clippers would eventually get less awkward for her. She made her way to her room pulling her card out of her bag and unlocking the door. She looked around the kitchen and living room and didn’t see any sign of Blake anywhere.
She made her way back to the bedroom and finally found him. He was sprawled out face down on her bed. Brielle smiled a sympathetic smile even though he couldn’t see her as she debated whether or not to touch him. She was sure he was asleep.
“Stop staring,” Blake’s muffled voice scared her out of her thoughts.
