Brielle studied herself in the mirror. She was getting ready for the OU athletic banquet they had every year for all senior athletes. Being a trainer she was expected to attend as well. She sighed wondering if Blake was going to make it. She knew Sam would be there. He had a break from his NFL obligations and had talked to her earlier in the week letting her know he would be there, but Megan, his girlfriend, wouldn’t be able to come with him. They had made plans to attend the banquet together.
She had asked Sam if he had heard from Blake at all and the quarterback sighed telling her he knew Blake was busy and did his best to assure her that there was no way the NBA rookie had forgotten his friends.
Brielle smoothed out her black cocktail dress while looking at herself in the mirror. Her reddish brown locks hung just below her shoulders and she had curled the ends. She had on just enough make up that you could tell she was wearing some, but not too much that she looked like she was ready to walk a runway.
Her thoughts drifted back to Blake and wondering what was really going on with him. She had met Gail, Blake’s mom, for lunch earlier in the week and she had told her about a girl that Blake had been seeing. Brielle knew then and there that was part of the reason the two hadn’t been able to stay in close contact. The same thing would happen while Blake was still at OU. Anytime he dated someone their friendship was always put on the back burner. Blake had explained to her before he didn’t want his girlfriends getting jealous and thinking there was really something there between the two friends and causing problems with his relationships.
Blake had kept his promise to her though. After he declared for the draft the two were nearly inseparable. Brielle smiled thinking about when Blake had picked her up from the football field when they had gotten back from the Texas game. He was waiting outside of his car holding a red rose and a white rose tied together with red ribbon. She couldn’t stop smiling at him while she looked out of the bus window and waited her turn to get off. She ran to him and jumped into his arms as he wrapped his strong ones around her laughing with her.
The two had spent the night at her apartment just talking about the future. Brielle would deny it if you asked her but that was the exact moment she knew what she was feeling for Blake wasn’t just an innocent friendship. Watching him pack for LA had been quite possibly the worst day of her life. Sure she was happy for her friend, he was finally getting to live out his dream, but she knew things wouldn’t be the same. She had come so close to spilling her secret as she watched him put the last few items into his already cram packed car, but she chickened out and Blake left Norman that day clueless to what was really going on in Brielle’s mind.
It didn’t matter now though. Blake was happy and in a relationship with, Karly, Kaylee, Kayla…whatever Gail had said her name was. Ultimately she just wanted her friend to be happy. Okay that was a lie, she wanted her friend to be happy and to still have the same friendship they had shared before when they were living minutes apart from each other.
Brielle shook her thoughts hearing someone knocking at her door. She knew it would be Sam so she grabbed her clutch and threw her phone inside it before walking to the door. She smiled opening the door and seeing Sam standing there in his tux.
“Well don’t you clean up well mister NFL,” Brielle said pulling him into a hug.
