That night had gone dramatically different for both teams. While the Thunder somewhat easily won the first game the Clippers had all but dominated the second. The series was tied at one game a piece headed to Los Angeles. Brielle didn’t look at her phone until after the game and she had three missed calls from Blake and a text that simply said ‘she’s irrelevant’. Shaking her head she tossed her phone back in her bag and headed out to her car.
Brielle had just enough time to run by her place grab her bags and head to the airstrip the team would be flying out of. She must’ve done that faster than she realized because by the time she parked her car in the designated lot and walked into the little building to wait for the plane she was the only one from Oklahoma City who had made it there.
She pulled out her laptop and was typing some notes from the evening’s game when she saw out of the corner of her eye someone sit down next to her. It wasn’t until she turned her head and looked that she noticed the someone was Chris Paul.
“Hey CP3 good game tonight,” Brielle smiled closing her laptop and resting her hands on top of it in her lap.
“Thanks. It’s always a tough series,” Chris smiled.
“Yes it is. For different reasons for some of us,” Brielle sighed.
“I’m glad you went there before I had to. What’s the deal with you two?” Chris asked turning in his seat to look at her.
“What do you mean?”
“You know what I mean. Just you being around had him thrown for a loop. He doesn’t do a good job at all of hiding it. What’s the story?”
“There really isn’t one. We were friends at OU. He left and joined the Clippers and I graduated and took a position with the Thunder,” Brielle shrugged.
“Cut the bullshit. You know what I’m talking about,” Chris sighed. “Look it’s not really any of my business anyway, but he’s distracted. Distracted enough that it affects his game and that is my business. If you have something to say to him find time tomorrow and say it,” Chris explained.
“But he has a girl..,”
“Ahhh yes Kayla. I guess if you want to call that a relationship,” Chris shrugged grimacing.
“Therein lies the other problem. That’s exactly how he is with girls and what happens when I’m not around? My job is in Oklahoma City and his life is in Los Angeles,” Brielle sighed.
“That’s a risk you’re going to have to be willing to take, but do yourself a favor and make a choice already. Outside of basketball there’s not much he wouldn’t give up for a shot with you,” Chris said a little quieter.
“Did he say that?” Brielle asked leaning in a little.
“No but he doesn’t have to. Give him a chance. You know you want to anyway,” Chris smiled winking at her as he got up to join Doc and some of the other guys by the window.
