Y/N's POV
A flash of realization struck me. No way. I think the lack of sleep is really taking a toll on me. I might just be seeing things and then the next thing I know, I might just be one step away from insanity. Is hallucination one of the effects of sleep deprivation? Well the answer, based on personal experience, might just be a yes.
Out of all the places I, or most probably the whole school, expect to see the golden student of Southshire High, a race field would be a universe away from that list, much less did I expect her to be one of the racers.
Holy hell, what if this is like one of those lucid dreams I watched online? I mentally face palmed as I realized how stupid that sounded. I really need to limit my conspiracy theory watching. As I snapped out of my internal ramblings, I realized that I still have my eyes locked with hers.
The slight widening of her eyes, I noticed as she seemed to recognize me as well. Not that I give too much care about it. I'm more concerned of my mental stability than my school's president being a race car driver. I honestly couldn't care less. Why? Because we're not in any way, shape or form, connected or related.
Our eye contact was broken as a hand made contact with her face, specifically her left lower cheek and jaw, creating a sharp slapping sound. I couldn't hold back my gasp as I realized what just happened. Concerned or not, he shouldn't have hit her.
Before anyone could move, a fight have already broken out. Hands clenched into fists flying everywhere on the field. As if it's a trigger of some sort, the deadly quiet crowd in the bleachers also broke out into an uproar of yells of cheers, urging the two racers on and some were of protest. I couldn't really tell who is screaming what. But if there's one thing certain, it's that they are slowly going crazy mad.
With every stomp of their feet against the floor of the bleacher, it sent the whole structure shaking, almost as if threatening to collapse under us. Their screaming also grew into an unbelievable level of loudness. If felt as though I'm in a room full of blasting speakers.
I looked at Kong Weili to see him just as lost as I am, eyes darting all around us, wide with confusion and shock. His grip on his arms visibly tightened, wrinkling the fabric of my gray coat. I grew worried as his movements grew more wary, almost anxious. And every second or so, a puff of breath would escape his lips, appearing as a cloud of smoke due to the coldness. I gently grabbed his shoulder and turned him to face me. My eyes searched his, wondering what's wrong and why he's acting like he is.
"J-jie jie." His call was soft and it took me a few moments to figure out what he just said among the loud screams of the others. He sharply inhaled through his mouth as his shaking hand rested on top of mine, gripping it tightly.
"Shit, shit... Let's get out of here." I muttered, much more to myself as j tried not to panic at Kong Weili's actions. He just nodded and continued to breathe deeply.
I stood up, slightly wobbling as the floor shakes. I helped him up, my arm immediately wrapping around his shoulder and the other one gripping his arm to help him through the people. My attention is now fully on the shaking boy in my arms.
I tried to lead us out of the bleachers as quickly as I can and it was of great help that we're in the front row as it's also the lowest to the ground. Fortunately, it didn't take long before we're finally out of there. I continued leading us away until the cheers are slightly drowned out.
"Y/N j-jie." Kong Weili called out, making me stop and look at him, brows furrowed in concern.
My eyes widened as I noticed how his breath has gone shallow, like he just went on a marathon, eyes squeezed shut. I quickly removed my arm from around him and moved so I'm standing in front of him instead, lightly gripping his shoulder to ease him up.
