Tom found detention much more tolerable with Tord there. The prior days he had just been sitting in silence trying to nap. But the warmth radiating in his hand made this time a haven. Tom squeezed the other boys hand and rested his forehead against the table. He was tired of everything around him and just wanted to sleep.

Tom had found himself loving the lifestyle the base had. Sure, it was run by a dick. But that dick knew what he was doing. And Tom loved fighting. Something about the adrenaline that coursed through him, with the threat of defeat following, made it an addictive buzz.

And that was all gone. Heck, he didn't even know how Zero was holding up. He was glad Tord was safe and away from the horrors that were his father. But Tom felt so empty without fighting. Without training. It wasn't living to him, it was just existing.

Tom slowly dragged his head to face Tord's, who had also rested his head on the desk to face Tom.

"Hey, babe?"

"Mhm?"
"I think I'm gonna go join a gym to box."

Tord looked at him more sternly. His body tensed, and Tom regretted that he was the cause behind it.

"Do you know how dangerous that is? You could get a concussion, you could die! I knew it was a bad idea letting you stay on the base!"
"Tord. Chill. I'll be fine."

"No. I won't allow it."

Tom challenged his boyfriend's eyes with his own, a glare emerging in them.

"Oh. I'm sorry, I didn't know I had to listen to how you think I should run my own goddamn life!"

"Tom-"

"No. I'm going to box, it makes me happy."

Tom quickly slipped his hand out of Tord's. And the anger inside him replaced the warmth of Tord's hand. He turned his head away from the boy, choosing to relax for the rest of the period.

The bells ringing was harsh, and Tom quickly jumped out of his chair to get to work. He was honestly psyched to go find a place to fight. But first he had to get through his shift. Tord and him had not talked for the rest of the day, and Tom was fine with that. He didn't go out of his way to walk Tord to classes, and he didn't text Tord at all.

What Tord said stuck to his brain. Tord expected him to follow his bidding with no complaints. Almost like his father. And Tom was sick of people thinking they knew what was best for him.

Adam didn't have the same shift today, so he was left to deal with the frequents of the popular cafe, and he was honestly glad for that. His mind wandered as he robotically filled out orders and called names. The clock seemed slow and he wanted nothing more than to bust out the door and go to the gym he had in mind. During his shift he had been researching the gyms in his area, and found one called Spartans, or something similar. It had the best reviews and the best price.

As the final minutes ticked down to the end of his shift he got fidgety. Everything was blurry but unmoving, except for one familiar person. His boyfriend was trudging through the doors, looking tired and irritated. But Tom didn't want to be around him. So as soon as the next guy came to take over the cafe he rushed out the back door. And in a couple moments Tom was headed to chase after the adrenaline he loved so dearly. This was going to be where his happiness would solidify.
