Tord unlocked his door to his mother tapping her foot on the floor and her arms crossed.

She leaned forward looking at something on Tord’s sweater. She plucked a sandy brunette hair off of it and held it in the light turning it in circles to survey it.

“What’s this doing on your sweater?”

“It’s from Tom’s old sweater, it still hasn’t been washed you know.”

The lies fell out of Tord’s mouth with ease. He often lied to his father but he hadn’t lied to his mother’s face in years. Trisha arched an eyebrow.

“Do you want me to wash it for you?”

“No!”

“Why not?”

“It won’t smell like him then, then it’s just another article of clothing.”

“Weird, but fine. Now come downstairs, dinner’s almost ready.”

“Yes mama.”

Tord got to clearing and setting the table,it was a trade off in a sense, one of them cooked and did the dishes, the other cleared and set the table. It was fair and made sure that one, no one was saddled with all the work and two, that dishes didn’t pile up.

Trisha set down a dish of scalloped potatoes and a bowl of pasta. She sat down and started to take from the dishes. Tord soon followed and they filled up their plates. Tord took a bite of potato and Trisha cleared her throat.

“So Tord let’s talk about your grounding. Any questions about it?”

“Just one, why?”

“Excuse me love?”

“Why did you ground me? What’s so bad if I went with Tom?”

“That’s not the problem dear, well it’s part of it, but the main thing is you went out of your way to disobey me. If I let it slide you’ll just do it again and then I won’t have any control over you. And that could really hurt you. Be it on base or here.”

Tord sighed and nodded.

“One last thing mama, what was so bad about forgiving Tom?”

“The next time he hurts you it’ll be worse, and he will because you let him off easy. That’s what I did, and look where it got me!”

“It got you here! You have a home, you have me, you’re not next to him!”

Trisha quieted down and scraped her fork on her plate.

“I just don’t want you to be hurt like I was.”

“Ugh, I get that you’re trying to protect me, but it was an honest mistake.Besides we’re fine.”

Trisha rolled her eyes.

“Look, can we just not talk about this right now?” Tord rubbed his forehead in aggravation.

The conversation shifted to plans for winter break, which would be in a week or two, and Christmas. The plan so far was holidays at the Gold household. This meant that Tord wouldn’t be grounded by Christmas.

Good.

Tord cleared the table and headed up to his room to sleep, or rather get ready for sleep, and lie in his bed on his phone for like an hour. Tord pulled on a pair of sweatpants and a loose t-shirt. Laying on his bed he checked his phone. He chatted with Edd about how Ringo attacked Matt the day before  and plans for the break. He told Mina about how he was finally taken. Mina would probably squeal his ears off tomorrow. Tord sent a goodnight text to his friends and opened up his chat with Tom.

Tord: gonna go to bed now. See you tomorrow at hell. Gnight, love you.

Tord plugged in his phone, turned on a few alarms and cuddled into his warm fluffy blankets, falling to sleep within a few moments.
