It had been a few days past, and slowly, the world eased itself again from tensing up at the threat of war. St. Freya was still trying its best to get through the fact that they lost tens of students in a single day, with many more injured. Of course, with the technology that was given to them by the Koreans, they recovered physically.
No amount of assurances nor bribery would be enough to heal their mental trauma of watching their friends and classmates die before their very eyes.
A few blamed Max for the fact that he was the bringer of destruction for St. Freya, but many defended him in his stead, especially Sofia, who defended the boy by the simple statement of the fact that the woman, who was simply known as the warden of the prison, had planned it from the start. In a system where women became the oppressor, it would be clear that paranoia would get to them, and since most of Busan was still recovering from Karna's blast, it made their paranoia skyrocket. So much so, that they kidnapped Max, who wasn't even the one who incited such a war, with the assumption that he knew something they didn't.
The fact that the boy also went through unspeakable acts of horror made his defenders double down on their defense for the boy's innocence.
Meanwhile, the two newcomers were warmly welcomed, which was a polite way to rephrase cautiously allowed to stay until further orders. So far, they were treated pretty much as if they were human.
Author does not know how to put such words into proper expression that does not connote any negativity.
And so, came in the ever so compulsory task of giving first timers their mission to prove their worth.
. . . . .
"Did you call for us?" John asked, standing alongside Seere. At their backs were Squad V, excluding Fu Hua and Himeko, as the former was visiting Max and Sofia in the hospital, while Himeko was still teaching.
The two males became roommates, and were neighbors to Squad V. They became close to them quite quickly.
"Yes, I did. It's just a simple fetch quest from Otto," Theresa stated, and the rest could tell that Theresa was still trying to keep a positive front.
"So, where is it?" Mei asked, making sure that at the back of her head to ask her about her current condition.
"It's at Southeast Asia, specifically in the Philippines. Schicksal HQ over there made a weapon and they want it approved and manufactured as soon as possible," Theresa explained.
"But why send us? Why can't they send the lower ranked Valkyries for that?" Seere asked.
". . . . . They are more for maintenance and clean up operations, not fetch quests."
"Ah. Apologies."
Seere made a mental note that the ranking made in this world is different than the others.
"But to give proper answer to you, Seere, it's to see your competency not just in getting weapons, but to also see your combat prowess against Honkai."
"You. . . You're not telling us that the base is--"
"It's overrun. But for some reason, they let it be overrun, and everyone had already been evacuated beforehand to allow all of you to wreck havoc," Theresa replied, causing Kiana to blink.
"Wait, you're serious?! Isn't that a stupid move?!" She exclaimed, as the rest backed away to let Kiana be the center of attention.
"I suppose. But knowing Otto, he's doing what's best and to identify their skills and capabilities, Kiana. Technically, Squad V doesn't have to join, but considering your history of missions. . ."
