A few days later
"Max, what're you do-- is that French toast?"
Kiana walked in towards Max, who was seen carrying a plate of French toasts. Setting it down on the table, he went back to the kitchen to make more with the multiple loaves he bought the day before. Curious, Kiana took a bite, and let out a small smile.
"It's kinda plain!" She exclaimed, causing the boy to sweat drop. Lowering down the flame, he went through the refrigerator and took out a plastic jar of sweetened creamer. Pouring some of them onto a small bowl, he passed it off to Kiana before finding chilli sauce in case she doesn't like it.
"Hey, this is much better! Thanks!" She exclaimed happily, munching away the toast with the thick and cold creamer that contrasted, yet somehow also compliments the hotness of the toast itself.
'I prefer chilli sauce,' the boy thought, before he continued cooking up the simple breakfast for the others.
"Max, are you doing breakfast?" Mei asked from the bathroom.
"He is, Mei-senpai!" Kiana exclaimed.
During the few days that had passed since his fight with Kiana, Kiana had newfound respect for the boy, and learned just a bit more about him.
He was an opportunist and doesn't let people finish their thoughts before attacking.
She acknowledges that he wasn't technically cheating, just taking the opportunity of his opponents attempting to have a clear thought process only to disrupt them immediately, which was low, but not as low as kicking him the crotch.
She was tempted to do that in their fight, but the boy's constant change of martial arts proved superior.
After those past few days, additionally, the boy was slowly gaining attention, simply because of how nice he was being. A few of the other students even began to befriend him properly, which warmed his heart.
"Good morning, Subject Max," Bronya stated emotionlessly, before the boy saw turned to look at her and gave her a plate.
"Thank you, Subject Max."
Going to the table to eat her breakfast, after a while Mei came into view.
"Eh? Max is cooking again?" She asked.
"He's really good at making breakfast, to be honest," she boldly claimed. The boy, despite thinking his cooking was purely average, smiled at the compliment. Additionally, Mei smiled as well. Seeing the boy warming up more and more to the group, she saw parallels of him to her, which in turn made her smile grow wider. When she saw Max wave a plate towards her, she took the plate and sat with the duo.
"Max. Come and eat with us after you're done, okay?" Mei called out. Seeing the boy lifting a thumbs up assured herself that he'll do exactly as she said. Recently, she offered the boy to eat with them to make him more comfortable around them, despite his mute status. So far, he's getting better and less awkward around his team, even with Kiana, where the two seem to share a friendly rivalry with each other. To Bronya, he was like an older brother. A mute one, but an older brother she could rely on.
She was then reminded that both her and Max had never really had a heart to heart with each other just yet, but she wondered how she should do it. However, her thoughts had shifted towards the conversation Kiana and Bronya had in mind.
"Tomorrow's Halloween, right?"
"Subject Idiotka is oddly excited about it," Bronya pointed out.
"Come on! Candy! How can you not get excited over that?!" She exclaimed, accidentally getting some creamer on her fingers in the process. Noticing it, she sucked her fingers off soon after, and soon Max joined the trio, taking a seat beside Bronya.
